Sony Rdrgx3

Hi everyone
once again I`m looking for some advice, I have a Phillips RDR890 which has broken down 4 times and is currently and seems to spend more time at the factory in sydney, anyway a few weeks ago I bought a Sony RDRGX3 dvd recorder, I thought it was a great machine, there have been a couple of problems, I bought about 3 spindles of datastream dvd-rs, halfway through the first spindle and most worked fine, there was one that would not record so I threw it out, today I tried every remaining dvd-r in that spindle and the message came up cannot play this disc and insert a recordable disc, I opened the other 2 spindles and the same results, out of the other 40 dvd-rs i found only 3 which would work in the recorder, dvd+rws work great as do dvd-rws except the timer will not work on the dvd-rws but works fine on the others, I`m wondering if this problem is with the dvd recorder or the blame lies with the datastream dvd-rs, has anyone else had problems similar to this, I`m getting so frustrated, the phillips machine has been nothing but trouble since the day I bought it 13 months ago, the Sony seems a great machine except for this problem with rejecting the discs, the display shows disc error, hope someone can advice me

I`d just like to let everyone know the Sony rdrgx3 seems to be a great machine, the problem is with the discs, I returned the spindles to the retailer who replaced them, he told me he has had several complaints about Datastream dvd-rs, I have little choice as I live in a small town and they are the only brand he stocks, but perhaps not for much longer, came home, tested each dvd-r in the sony recorder, 9 were rejected out of first spindle, 7 rejected out of second spindle, just throwing the faulty discs out and using the good ones, will never buy datastream again,

TDK blank media seem to be the best, pity about the price..My pioneer DVR 7000 has been like your Phillips,,,This DVD recording is becoming a real pain ie the blank media compatibility issue..I thought I had found the ideal disks being Ritek and Marvo. But they now are being rejected...but the TDK are accepted,,WHATs going on ''F" if I know. Something needs to be done about this bullshit which is going on when it comes to blank media for DVD recorders.....

thanks so much for your reply, I agree with you TDK blank media do seem to be the best, I wish they sold them locally but I have to travel to the city to get them and even then I need to call the shop first about stock, the Philips recorder has been a headache from day one, it has been returned and is working but I ask myself for how long, it still refuses to read many discs, at first I thought there was a problem with the Sony recorder but now realise it`s the cheap discs, I`m so pleased with the Sony and I`ll never buy Phillips again, I agree something needs to be done about these blank discs, there were some cheap ones advertised 10 for $10 but I wouldn`t waste my time or money, I`ll just go for TDK and stock up on them, Sony are good but seem to be very espensive, the same shop called The Warehouse is advertising a cheap no brand dvd recorder for $399, I think we get what we pay for but I have to admit I paid $1300 for the Philips recorder and was told at the time it was one of the best but it`s given me nothing but worry, there`s 2 years left on the warranty and I`m sure it`ll continue to go back and forth to Philips, lol, but I rely on the Sony now, I think it`s an excellent machine, a good buy
