Hi all,

Would anyone have a copy of the Loewe Service Manual for a Profil...
that I could beg, borrow or steal?

Or if someone could please point me in the direction of an online
service manual, I would really appreciate it.

Sorry... I should have clarified my request, yes I am after the
Service Manual that a Service Technician would use (I still have my
Operator's Manual).

What I am looking for is how to access the hidden (to me) "Service
Menu" which I have heard about.

Peter,

I checked out this site you mentioned, but could not find any
reference to Loewe in the "supported brands" list.

If you know these people have this service manual, could you please
point me in the right direction?

Repeatedly press the menu button on the front panel until Service
option shows. Then press remote menu.

Works like that on other digital chassis.

Took me about 5 minutes to figure out when I needed to adjust the
size after a repair. I then called the tech. to confirm which bits I
could change without the set going "boom". Be very, very careful;
there are no safe-guards against damaging settings.

I agree with your warning! My Loewe Cantus did a strange thing when I
first adjusted it via the service menu (Horizontal Poz adjustment did
it) - the screen went full tilt brightness; when I reset the TV back to
stored settings via the user menu I had lost all TV sound and the thing,
to this day thinks it's got Pro-Logic sound happening.

I've tried every suggestion from users in here to regain internal stereo
sound, to no avail and there isn't an EPROM Reset anywhere I can see so
I can start over.

Alex Encel from InterDyn reckons to send it to him in Melbourne, but I'm
in Sydney and it's out of the question sending a TV like that just to
get internal sound back and risk damage from transportation.

Fortunately it's external audio and headphone still works full time in
stereo, and my sound from the STB is S/P-DIF(ed) to my HT Amp in any case.

I noticed on the DBA web site that DVB SD boards are available for the
Q414X chassis now, so I may get it fixed when and if I have this board
fitted, but over-all it really doesn't matter, as I'm happy with my
Strong and Thomson SD boxes and the way it's all set up.

I'd still be interested in hearing from other Cantus owners though that
have accessed the service menu and had similar problems, and what they
did to fix it. I probably won't sell the set in any case, as my next
move will be to HD and a DLP projector.

Be warned though as Bernd has and write every default setting down on
paper *before* you adjust it, for safety.

I was actually playing with it again last night and now my "Cine" mode
is a little off centre.

I'm going to leave it a few days before I touch it again;)

After reading about your adventures with the Service Menu, I will make
sure I make note of any settings prior to making any changes, but rest
assured... I don't plan to make any changes at this stage... I was
just curious about this hidden Service Menu and wanted to check it
out.

I'm in Canberra

I don't have any problems with my TV (anymore) as I just got it back
from having it repaired by an authorised Loewe technician. It took him
3 months to fix it as it had an intermittant problem where it kept
shutting itself off, but I can't complain... he has done a good job
and it is working fine now and I didn't get charged any more than for
the first time he fixed it in my home (the next 3 months he had it
were warranty on the initial repairs).

The only reason I asked about the service menu, is that when the Tech
delivered it and set it back up, he went into the service menu and I
was just curious about it.

Thanks for the info on Pacific HiFi, I might just need it one day.

Please let me know how you go with the digital tuner card, I am
certainly interested in all information regarding this modification as
we are unsure as to which way to go with digital (either a set top box
or the tuner card).

maybe you might find the following useful. It's an extract from a dealer manual which I had sitting around in my PC. I don't recall how I got it. I have not provided all the info, just the settings pages.

This is for information only and you should not use it to make adjustments to your set. Remember the warnings in this post; you can damage your TV permanently. Having said that, I make no guarantee that the info in the PDF is applicable to your set or indeed any Loewe TV.

So. In short, if you break it; don't say you weren't warned.
