I wish to buy a DVD burner and need help deciding the options
(A) A tried and true single layer PIONEER or

(B) a twin layer PIONEER,or LG
This is because I have heard there is still a few problems with the two layer Burners

Nothing against the LG, I have had a few of them in the past but in this case I would say go with the Pioneer, they have had a good track record with firmware updates and there is a very good user base at www.rpc1.org that does firmware mods also.

I would also go the pioneer.

The only issue is that dual layer media is very expensive (around $12-15 per disc) but I would still recommend you get a dual layer burner as the media will get cheaper and you wont save that much by getting a single layer one.

thanks

If I was in the market for a burner atm I would only get a dual layer burner if it was no more than $20 more than a single. Main reason being that the media is too expensive and I expect it will be 18 months + before it is anything near reasonable. Byt that time dual layer burners would have had all the kinks ironed out and be way cheaper. I really do doubt that it will ever be a cost effective solution though.

I dont think it will take that long for dual layer media to drop to around $2-3 a disc (which is reasonable IMO) it all depends on the volumes sold.

Another issue is compatibility, you should check to ensure your DVD player(s) will support them first. If not then there really is no point in getting one.

Personally im waiting on dual layer dvd-r recorders before I upgrade my 4X single layer burner
