Just cruising the net and came across Michael DVD's review of the
Marantz 4200, I nearly fell out of my chair. I have a LG 4721p and apart
from the case, they appear to be identical. Screw holes and all. Never
thought Marantz would re badge products, anyone know anything about this?

I have a 4200 and although I cannot verify it's truth, I have been told that
Marantz rework the audio circuitry to provide a higher quality output.
After all the difference between a good unit and a lesser unit is the
quality of the components. As many of the "brand names" are really
subsiduaries of big electronics companies, it is not at all surprising.
Cheers,
Nick.

I think too many drugs are being taken here. They hardly resemble each other.

No, unfortunatly. Look here

I opened my 4721p to clean the lense 2 days ago. There is a shitload of
backplane sockets missing from the unit, one looks like a scart mounting
and the others I could not identify. Looking at the Marantz, it would
appear one is for the remote control sockets. The units are basically
the same.
The display is the same, the only real difference is the case and button
layout. Which is 10 cents worth of difference.

Not surprising in this day and age.
It would have been much easier and more cost efefctive for Marantz to base
their early players on anotehr company's design than to design a player from
scratch.
The Marantz DV8300/8400 universals are based on early Pioneer universal
players.
