What a disappointment.

I watched it hooked up to a Yamaha Home theatre station (amp+dvd all
in one) through the components to the VGA inputs of the projector.

For starters, the projector at maximum zoom didn't project that great
size of an image from a distance 2m. I found the Epson TW10H was much
better at this.

The DLP rainbow effect gave me the shits!!! I kept seeing it every few
seconds, found it very uncomfortable to watch and distracting.

Lamp prices are nothing spectacular.

Image quality was nothing impressive, however I will say in its favour
could barely spot any pixelation when I looked up close at the screen.

Stil not worth the $1600. And that rainbow effect is just waaay to
distracting and uncomfortable on my eyes. I hear that most people are
averse to the DLP rainbow effect, I guess i'm one of the unlucky ones.

I catch the occasional rainbow on my 6100 but only if I move my head rapidly while watching it. I think you got unlucky with your eyes and brain, and it's going to cost you some more $, sorry about that.

I have a few wise words passed on to me by an electronics expert:

"Do not buy Benq or any Taiwanese/Chinese brand"

Damn good advice.

How much is it? Running cost are an important consideration, I am
looking at the EPSON TW10H we have at work which is about the same
price as the BenQ 6100, I found it could throw a larger image at a
closer distance, flyscreening was noticeable, but if your back at th
eright distance and a HD box is connected, image was beautiful. $1799
including screen that's the best deal so far, that and the bulbs are
around $300-400 replacement, vs the $600+ for the 6100.

The Panasonic AE500 is a nice unit, however at over $2.5k its more
than im wanting spend.

I'd agree with that sentiment to a degree, you do occassionaly get a
good product.

I wouldn't say the benQ is a shit brand, just the DLP 6100 wasn't what
I expected, and that rainbowing was horrid.
