I saw this on TV. The deal is available at Blockbuster. As I remember it, you buy Shrek 2 on DVD for $39.95 and you get a New Release rental every week for ten weeks - for free. Is it just me or is this a good deal?
Shrek 2 DVD = around $30
10 New Release Rentals = 10 x $6
Total value = $90
Is that right or did I see and hear it wrongly?

Well even at a nice rental price of $3.75, like Video Ezy locally, that is over $77 value for $40.
Might have to check out, wonder if the street price will be under $30 though ??

At my local blockbuster, overnight rentals are $4.95 so the value would be ~$79.50.
It's a good deal, and one that blockbuster have run a few times with various movies.

I would probably go for it but the closest Blockbuster is a ten minute drive away, or for me, a half hour bike ride :p
If I was going to buy Shrek 2 I would do it.
If you considered the DVD to be worth $30 then it's about $1 for each rental.
If you considered the DVD to be worth $20 then it's about $2 for each rental.
That is exceptional value :D

At Civic Video near us we only pay $2 a new release on Mon and Tues.
At Video Ezy we pay $6 for New Release (Including 3 day rental) and $3 for weeklies.
I have many "2 new releases for the price of 1"s, and "5 weeklies for $5"s.
There is a DVD Freq service thing, but I don't rent videos very often.
You can also recharge your phone card and get a free new release. I do that often :D

I just heard this announced on Triple M for "Melbourne's Best Buys".
They advertised that you purchase a ten week rental thingy for $39.95 at Blockbuster and you get the Shrek 2 DVD or PC game for free. How much are new release PC games worth these days? I don't buy many games because I don't have and can't afford a fast enough computer. If I did then I would be playing Counter-Strike and Halo at the same time instead of wasting time on these addictive forums. Sigh. I'm going to bed.

new pc games are generally worth about 70-100 dollars.
Is this deal available everywhere, or just in Melb?

I have no idea. It is constantly advertised on Triple M, but I think they've pulled it off TV.
Anyone in another state seen it?

just wanted to relate my story about this Blockbuster thingie...
My partner and I are sick of the service at our BB Nedlands, we have made complaints to the manager and simply had enough. The staff are rude, lazy and have no knowledge of anything! (harsh, but sadly true) We have since gone to another different video retailer, less range but good price and fantastic service (they actually make recommendations!).
Anyway, this Shrek offer prompted us to return to BB (wise move with marketing). So when we went into the store, I asked the staff member to please tell me about the offer- this is basically what she said:
"oh yeah, that shrek thing... look i don't really know about it, we're not a participating store. i think you pay some amount like $35 and get some free DVDs or something to rent and then you get the free Shrek thing at the end that they were advertising on TV."
So i told her what i remembered of the deal ($39.95, 10 x new releases, 1 per week then free DVD or Xbox game at the end). she said yeah it sounds right. So I asked her why they were not a prticipating store and get this, her reply was "the deal is too difficult for the staff" i was shocked and asked how it could be so hard and she said they were already running one card, which was a rent one get one free card...
So anyway, i asked her if she could tell me where the closest participating store was. she said she didn't know which stores were participating, but she knew there was one in bullcreek! (for non-perth ppl, that is about a 40 min drive from this store) i asked her if there was any way she could find out, or if she knew if the mosman park store was doing it (15 min drive). she didn't know there was a BB in mosman park and had no idea how to find out, she told me to look it myself or ring someone else.
So you can see why i'm frustrated with BB Nedlands!!! but the offer looks great and i'd like to do it, but only if the store is <15 mins from home, or on the way home from work or something!
