You should be aware that cell phone signal boosters are illegal in Australia, I suggest anyone interested should contact the Australian Communications Authority. Copies below is a statement from their web site.

In brief: ACA alerts owners of banned mobile phone boosters

Consumers should be aware that it is illegal to possess non-compliant mobile phone booster amplifiers, also known as 'boosters', for the purpose of connection or supply .

There are significant safety concerns over the use of non-compliant boosters in Australia. Contrary to some claims, non-compliant boosters have a very harmful effect on the integrity and operation of both the CDMA and GSM mobile phone networks. The use of non-compliant boosters can limit the access of other users to the mobile phone network, including their access to emergency services.

The ACA has banned the use and supply of these boosters because they affect how the network operates. Boosters do not comply with ACA technical standards for telecommunications equipment. The ban allows for fines of up to $220,000 for anyone found in possession of a non-compliant booster.

If you still have a non-compliant booster, you should destroy and dispose of it in an appropriate way or you can return it to any ACA office for disposal.

In an effort to eliminate the use of non-compliant CDMA and GSM boosters, the ACA is using its powers under the Telecommunications Act 1997 to identify consumers who have purchased non-compliant boosters. Consumers who own a non-compliant booster are being contacted and advised of the prohibition and the consequences of using non-compliant boosters.

The ACA has a fact sheet on mobile phone boosters. Copies are available on the ACA website.

For further information about mobile phone boosters, contact the ACA's Telecommunications Standards Team on 03 9963 6800 or by email at comply.label@aca.gov.au
