HDTV vs PayTV Digital??

Hi all,

I am a bit stumped as to what to do with this little problemette. I have been helping a guy set up his home theatre system and he keeps buying new stuff for me to chuck in the mix. All has gone well until now. He has just purchased a HDTV receiver and I can't fathom where to stick it. What he currently has is this... Plasma TV, JVC Amp, DVD, VCR, CD, Foxtel Digital. All the standard stuff, so my question is where in the chain should the HDTV receiver go? Is there any point as the 'Foxbox' already delivers digital broadcast? It's got me scratching my head as there aren't any more inputs available for it and he has enough trouble operating what he has as it is.

Any advice would be gratefully accepted!!

Fox only delivers SD digital AFAIK and even so I think they just use the analogue signal of the FTA channels for channels 7 and 10 (so no widescreen and so so quality).

You may be able to pass through one of the components.

How come he has a CD player too? Surely the DVD player does all the CD player can do thus making the CD player redundant?

What ins and outs does the amp and the TV have?

His opinion is the more components the better and the CD player is a 25 CD Jukebox setup.

The amp has all the usual inputs and outputs, TV, Satellite, DVD, VCR, DVD, CD. The DVD runs component video direct to the TV and sound is via optical cable leaving the DVD RCA inputs free. The TV has all the standards plus the DVI & S-Video. Also has a coax and optical audio inputs.

I was thinking of passing through one of the components but I wasn't sure which one. The VCR really only gets used for watching old videos so would the VCR loop be the way to go?

Simple solution in my opinion, is to purchase a Component Switch Box or the like, which delivers 480i, 480p, 720p and 1080i. Perfect for HDTV. Refer to this site:
