If one were to decompile and/or disassemble the existing firmware for both the XMS-989 and the Zensonic Z300......

Would it be even remotely feasible to transfer the Z300's MT1389GE mods into our XMS-989 code, and then compile/assemble???

I've got some time on my hands, so I could give it a go if it were possible. ;)

However, the servo code is different so although you can get a picture on the screen, the tray ejects and stays out.
You will then not have the ability to reflash back again. (unless you have a very special cable, see above link).
Also, the code for the VFD is totally different.

Joining the Yahoo group that Andw mentioned is perhaps the best source of MediaTek hacking info at the moment, hopefully I will have the first updated firmware soon, I'm meeting with the manufacturer this week.

Yay, if they can get us something, it's certainly a lot easier than having to hack it.
There are still a LOT of unknowns in there.
