It’s her first day at going to school and her parents are very proud of her, but we aren’t talking about a 5 year old girl though. Cady is a teenager who been ‘home schooled’ by here parents while living in Africa, so she now has to fit in and make new friends as well as learn how things work at Junior High.
Cady makes a couple of friends and they introduce her to the various cliques that schools typically have, but one of them, the Plastics (wealthy, popular, good looking and bitchy) invite her in and try to train her to be one of them. Cady soon sees them for what they really are and with the help of her other friends, she embarks on a campaign of dirty tricks to outsmart the leader of the group as well as try and gain the affections of a guy they both have the hots for.

Audio:
I found the Dolby Digital 5.1 mix to be a little front heavy at times, but the one thing that prevented the entire movie from being this way, was that there is quite a bit of music during the movie and the rear speakers would come into play each and every time. As for other audio from the rears, you’d hear the occasional thing such as a school bell, but it is the music that saves the 5.1 experience from being a dull one.
The use of the sub could be described in pretty much the same way too.
The clarity of the audio was first rate though and dialogue was dead easy to follow throughout.

Video:
Mean Girls has that nice and clean look that you’d expect from a recent cinema release. The picture quality was fine for the most part as there were no blemishes such as specks or grain to report and the colours were spot on throughout the movie.
I thought that a couple of scenes may have been a tad dark or soft, but these are pretty minor quibbles and are the only things remotely negative that I could see.
I couldn't spot a layer while watching this DVD.

<center><B>EXTRA FEATURES:</b></center>
Commentary by Director Mark Waters, Screenwriter & Actress Tina Fey and Producer Lorne Michaels –
Hmmm…. I’m not sure about this one. They jump in and out with comments about the movie and cast, but after listening to the entire commentary track, it had a bit of a stop/start feel and didn’t flow like other commentaries with multiple participants do. It’s not bad by any means and you do learn little bits of trivia during the movie, but unlike the movie, it’s one that I won’t sit through again.

Word Vomit –
This is a blooper reel that runs for a little under 6 minutes and has a musical backing track. It got some laughs out of me and I’m sure it will do the same for everyone else.

So Fetch! Deleted Scenes –
There are 9 deleted scenes to look at and you have the option to play them all, as well as an option to listen to a commentary by Director Mark Waters and Screenwriter/Actress Tina Fey.

Interstitials –
All 3 of these are basically mini promos for the movie and they all run for about 30 seconds each. They all give you a laugh and feature the 3 girls from the ‘Plastics’ clique, with the second one also featuring the main character, Cady. There is a Play All option for these.

Theatrical Trailer –
Shown in widescreen and in Dolby Digital 5.1, the trailer gives you a good run down of what the movie is all about. It does cram a lot in and if you are sensitive to spoilers, you may not want to see it until after the movie.

There are three featurettes on the DVD that are called Only The Strong Survive, Politics of a Girl World and Plastic Fashion. Unfortunately for me, the review DVD provided skips and jumps on this section and I'm unable to go into detail on these features. I am confident that it is just my review disc that is faulty and this won't be an issue with the retail releases.

<center><B>A MEMORABLE MOMENT FROM THIS DVD</b></center>
The 4 girls doing the musical number in their sexy Christmas outfits. ( Umm… they are over 18 aren’t they?!) Just kidding. :p

<center><b>OVERALL:</B></CENTER>
I went into this knowing what kind of movie it will be (not something I’d want to watch), but it wasn’t too bad in the end. There were plenty of laughs and some of the characters were fun to watch, especially Damian, the gay friend, so I can easily see this being a hit with its target audience.
The audio/visual presentation of the movie on DVD was quite good and the extra features should please a lot of viewers.
Mean Girls has a release date of November 11, 2004 and will have a RRP of $39.95
