Hi,

I've got a Liteon 5005 dvd recorder and just wondering if anyone knows HOW to utilise a STB through one of these?

The manual says nothing about it and I've tried everyway I can think of.

Seems ridiculous to have to record analogue ghosted signals....there has to be a way???

Any assistance appreciated.....

Thanks, Nick

Does the 5005 have AV inputs? - I would think that would be the only way.

hI, CHEERS FOR YOUR EMAIL, ah yeah it does have AV inputs....s-video, composite.....I tried using both of these and no go. I tried to change around the 'source' button but no way I could get the stb to pass through it.

Like I said, strange the manual did not have anything on the use of STB's and I am pretty sure I have heard someone else saying this recorder can;'t be used with STB's but that seems really bizarre and backward to me, and overall its a great device........unless this issue can't be corrected.

So, if you plug the STB AV outputs into the Liteon's AV input, and set the Liteon to the AV channel, with the TV set to the Liteon's channel, you get no picture?

I have an LVW 5005 but no STB - however, the suggestion of connecting STB to AV inputs is logical. If you get no picture/sound I imagine you have cruised through the different 5005 inputs using the "source" button?

Sorry, I know that's elementary but could explain it. Otherwise as the STB pumps digital signals to a TV - then maybe TV to 5005 is the only solution. Meanwhile... my previous query re Teletext is still a problem. The 5005 appears to format Channel 7 in such a way that my TV's teletext decoder can't pick up the signal to decode. Any ideas?

Finally, the 5005 I find basically okay - it's the manual that causes me problems - for example in timer recording where do you see the "status" column covered? I found out the hard way that if it is blank (not "Ready") - forget it, you've done something wrong - quality not possible for the specified recording length - or whatever. Cheers, Roy.

Hi, cheers for your email.

Yes, you're right and I did try the AV inputs and toggled around the source button, but was not able to get any picture. Did get some sound, but that was all.

Apart from this I've been reasonably happy with it too andsI'm sure I will be able to figure it out when I try again this weekend.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers, nick

Nick,

did you ever solve this problem? I was intending to set my equipment up the same way (when I get it).

Ron

I'm not sure what the original poster was doing wrong but you won't have any problem hooking up a STB and the recorder, I have done this many times with various brands of equipment without issue, it's as simple as AV out of the STB to AV in of the DVD recorder.

Thanks for the feedback, Jok11n. I imagined that it would/should be dead simple - hence my "concern".

Can you share your thoughts on the LiteOn 5005? Some earlier comments that I read on it were pretty damning - mainly to do with its playback qualities (from memory). But more recent comments seem more favourable.

Regards, and Merry Christmas

The 5005 is a decent machine, the only thing I usually recommend is to do the firmware updates as it will add increased media handling as a lot of new discs have been released and otherwise you will come across discs that it doesn't work well with. They seem to be all good once you do that though. Here's a review of the 5005 http://cdrinfo.com/Sections/Reviews/Specific.aspx?ArticleId=9411 (the site has popups)
