Hi, not technically minded, I sought advice on buying a DVD recorder that did everything. I have since found out the one I purchased for close to a thousand dollars (Pioneer 310S) doesn't play any dvds from other regions, nor does it play the dvd+ home dvds my daughter has sent me!! We have made a few calls to see if we can unlock it, but to no avail. Does anyone know if it's possible? And if not, if we purchase a cheap dvd player to do the things my current one can't, are the cheapos at Kmart and Target up to the trick? (Magnavox mdvd50 mdvd200 teac dv2190k base dv 328) ie. Will they play dvd+ and -, will they let me play from and record to my other dvd and are they zone free? We have done a search on this forum, but I find it a little difficult to understand.
Thanks so much for any help you can provide!

I thought all Pioneer's were multiregioned out of the box thesedays but maybe that does not apply to recorders. Have you actually tried a non-region 4 disc? I do not mean to be insulting (although it may sound like I was) but it would not be the first time someone has complained they do not have a multiregion unit only to find out that they did: they were only going on what the manual and/or the packaging said. I do not think there is one dvdplayer out there that actually says it is MR in the manual.
As to the the cheap players you mentioned they are generally adequate to the task and are usually multiregioned out of the box or can be made so with a remote code. No one at Kmart or Target or palces like that will help you but if you go to Strathfields (they only sell MR players) or a hifi store you should be OK.

Pioneer's own site has it at $699 rrp - so it should have been cheaper around
ttp://www.pioneeraus.com.au/home_entertainment/dvdplayersandrecorders/dvr310/index.html
As the brochure says it's capable of all these things but then there are the asteriscted footnotes which give all the exclusions etc, etc, etc......
DVDs recorded on other machines usually have to be 'finalised' - I'm about to find out what that means when I do the procedure on my Liteon LVW-5005
If it doesn't do what you bought it for, take it back, get a refund and buy something cheaper.
I remember seeing where someone complained that his expensive player wouldn't play discs that a $50 cheapie had no trouble reading!
