Hi all,

Just upgraded my existing Sony system to Yamaha A/V receiver and new set of speakers.

I have never owned a music dvd before but have played Sanatana live (DTS) to which i borrowed from a friend. Nice precise sound. Accoustic guitar sound amazing (as if he is almost playing right infront of you) you can hear that crystal clear accoustic guitar sound.

Now I was wondering what you guys use to show off your system if you are using a music dvd? preferrably live concerts and band jamming and showing off their talents!

I really dont have preference for movies as all they can do is thump that subbie. Though "Day after tommorrow" sounds great when lighting strikes etc. but not satisfyingly enough to convince, as they only last seconds to show off that sound.

So if you have any preference music dvd's please list them. THanks.

Ariel.

Try "Eagles - Hell Freezes Over" and the Sting concert from 2001 (can't remember the name), both rate highly IMHO.

I think recommending music is even more difficult than movies due to the differences in peoples tastes.

The other question is whether you want a dvd which is technically good to show off the system, or something that you will watch over and over because it's a great concert.
For me the Eagles only fills the first criteria, I found that as a concert it didn't do anything for me at all.

Some of my favourites
Scorpions - Acoustica
Bon Jovi - This Left Feels Right
Roy Orbison - Black & White Night
Matchbox Twenty - Show, A Night in the Life of

Actually the Matchbox Twenty one I've been listening to just the audio without seeing the picture lately and the crowd noise seems to stand out a lot more than when you are watching it, so obviously soundwise it's not really that good.

It's a big ask to find a concert that you really like which also has great demo type sound.
Roy Orbison probably comes closest out of the ones I've seen.

Dudes, thanks for your replies. True it depends on wether you want to use it as a demo or something to watch over and over. Both cases are fine for me, I just simply buy both. I will have a mixture of both, one of them is my preffered music genre so that i can enjoy to watch over and over and two to use as a demo.

I was looking for demo, it doesnt matter if it is not my genre, just something to watch and listen to so that I can satisfy my self and not regret for blowing my budget!!! ;)

Good choice, I was also thinking of Eagles too. I'll just go and buy one myself.

Keep recommending, even if it is classical I dont care. I have this amp that has all these features such as DTS EX, 96k/24 bit-DTS ES etc etc and I dont have a DVD to try them out.

Thanks for your replies, really appreciate it.

Try "Eagles - Hell Freezes Over"

Agh! you beat me to it! :p
Definitely one of the better audio dvd's I've heard, and a bargin at any price made even better by the fact it's around $20 at Kmart, bigW or target. :)

JB Hifi have Se7en and Blade II for $15.98, both of these are DTS ES titles and have excellent sound. The New Star Wars films, Ep 1/2 both have a Dolby Digital EX sountrack. I am not recommending these, except as a source of good ES/EX or 6.1 sound.

Gotta agree, this is the best sounding DVD I have heard!
I always chuckle when I go into a department store and they use this DVD to sell....DVD players,Speakers, home entertainment systems. Some of the claims the salesmen make crack me up :dD
Yeah its great and I really dont care much for the eagles...

Eagles are fantastic!! Even with dolby 2 channel is pleasing to listen to. Great advice!

My wife is not even into this stuff and she enjoyed it. It was great experience, entertaining and pleasure to watch and listen over and over!

If you're a fan of Sade then I suggest "sade lovers live" DVD. I'm a fan and love this DVD. If I'm doing chores around the house on the weekend I usually have this playing for a while. It has a nice variety of sounds and I find her voice soothing.

BTW I bought the R1 which has DD5.1 and DD2.0.

I've always liked the concert scene in "The Fifth Element".
Nice mix of Opera then into some funky type stuff. And it's not just the music, but the vocals from the singer too.

I also liked Queen's A Night at the Opera DVD-A.
Whilst I don't have a DVD-A player, I can still make use of the optional DTS 96/24 audio track!

Try OPETH - Lamentations. A very good mix of live acoustic/distorted guitars.
If you prefer metal music... ;)
