xbox live problems

I am having trouble w/ my XBOX live. I have had it configured to a router
w/ an ethernet cable link for about 2 years. Never had a problem. I
haven't played on Live for about 6months. Later I have been having trouble
staying connected w/ any live game. Usually after 10-15 mintures, I get a
message saying that xbox cannont connect to live. Anyone else have this
problem? Any advice on how to correct it?

Could it be that my ethernet cable has been damaged by being walked on (it
runs under a rug at one point)? thanks.
