Does anybody know if Australiam gamecube console could play UK games? I would like to buy games from UK but not sure if they are compatible. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

I would assume so, since both Aus and the UK are PAL territories (unless GC games have region coded crap like DVDs :p).
But... yeah, I only assume so.

this is the same with PS2 titles aint it? OZ and UK are PAL and as far as I known the UK and OZ share the same region with PS2 games.. can anyone confirm this?
PS2 game regions = Japan, North America and Europe w/ OZ being shoved into the Europe group...

I'm pretty sure the 'regions' are distinguished by TV presentation differences... in this case being PAL and NTSC.
Thankfully they didn't get all anal over what country can have what games. :rolling:

Not too shabby indeed!
I just hope they dont do something stupid like send you the NTSC version.
First Order I did through them they stuffed up. Sent me a region 4 version [an el cheap RRP$10 one at that] instead of the 10pound R2 version.
I told them if I wanted an Australian disc I'd go down to the shops. LOL
.... to their credit; they did replace it *eventually*. For a while I had a c/s lady try to tell me that "whilst it's R4, it will still play on an R2 player". DUH!

that sux but i doubt they'd be sending me an NTSC version since that game wouldn't work in UK players and the UK is their main target market.. the disc specifically said PAL in its details too but then again we all know how crappy the majority of online retailers can be :)

I don't think its the TV presentations. Both Jap and US TVs are NTSC format but don't think their games are in the same region.
If nobody ever tried the compatibility in Gamecube then I will just have to try my luck...:( some games are definately cheaper there
BTW anyone played Zelda: wind waker yet?

Yes UK games will play on Aus consoles. A couple of problems with buying from overseas though: Shipping, and how to make payment. I have found that it's just not worth it buying games from overseas. The games may seem cheaper must once you add the extra shipping, cost of converting your money, or buying an o/seas money order it adds up to a lot of money, and extra hassle. I would only recommend it if there's a game that you really want that's not going to be released in Australia. But that's just me, you might find it worthwhile. But before buying I would take the time to add up how much the total expense is going to be, and how you can pay, and whether it will be worthwhile.

errr dude.. most people here frequently purchase DVDs from overseas online retailers (i for one).. www.cd-wow.com is selling this PS2 title for 16.99 pounds with free delivery which works out to around $43 AUD.. now i cannot see any problems with that :-)
credit cards are what ya use to pay and shipping from the UK takes 9 working days at the most whereas from US usually takes me anything from 2-3 weeks...

Thats because there is Jap NTSC and US NTSC.
There is only 1 type of PAL for all countries utilizing it. Well, thats not intirely true, there is PAL60, but modern TV's play this anyway.

Fair enough. That does sound cheap. I was just sharing my experiences that I've had with ebay UK and US wich I would not recommend. But he didn't say anything about ebay, so you are right it does seem you can find cheap DVD's/games if you look in the right place.
