Hi! I'm new to this forum. I have recently bought a BBK DV991 DVD-player, which I presume is based on the MTK 1389 chip. Does anyone know which version of this chip that this player is equipped with? The DV991 only features a DTS digital out function (no built-in DTS decoder). Can you based on this information draw the conclusion that the DV 991 has the GE version of the chip?

The DV991 presents a quite jerky picture (is this the right expression for when a videoclip does not run as smoothly as it should?) when playing some XVID files. I believe it has something to do with GMC, but I am not sure. The player will play the files, but as mentioned, not as smoothly as one would like it to. Now to the question: Does this have something to do with the actual chip itself, or does it have something to do with the firmware? I tried to contact the distributor, but no answer...

Don't know which chip this player is based on, however with most files, you can correct the 'jerkyness' on at least Mediatek based players by using this program.
http://www.moitah.net/MPEG4Modifier-1_1_0.zip
Run the program, open the .avi file, tick the 'Unpack' checkbox in the 'packed bitstream' area, delete the 'user data', by highlighting the data and backspacing over it.
Then save the avi (takes only a couple of minutes).
You'll need the .net framework installed to run the application as its made with C#

These are all I can find that make any sense...

But neither say what sort of chip is in it.

You could also check www.ausdivx.tk and have a look at the screen shots of the menus and see if anything there looks familiar, the different players all have similar look and feel, an easy way to identify the chipset. If you can't find something that matches post a picture of your setup menu and I can tell you what chipset it is. It might not be much help though, from what I understand BBK is having some financial problems at the moment, this may explain why you are having problems getting support.

Thanks for the answers!

I tried the modifier program, and it worked excellent with the one file I've tried so far!! Thanks for the link! It took a bit longer than just a few seconds with my old P3 computer though... I think I need to upgrade :)

I don't seem to be able to access the http://www.ausdivx.tk/ website right now, I am gonna try again later.

jok11n, regarding the BBK finacial situation that you mentioned, do you have any more information? Are they on the brink of ruin? I just talked with their representative in Sweden, he did not have any more technical information, but he kind of offered me a job :)

i was thinking of getting this player in norway, but it seems www.av-bbk.com
have been down for some time.

so, if the company is bust what will happen to divx upgrades?

it doesnt mention anything on the swedish page.
