Mate if you want my advice. If you have zip experience at doing this ,dont do it yourself unless you are prepared to pay alot more to fix it after you stuff up.
Just pay the 30-40 to get someone to do it.
Matrix chips need soldering in all xbox versions bar version 1.

I have been told that the "pogo" chips don't work that great. If you move the xbox around a bit, it can cause it to lose contact with d0 etc etc.
I have a DX Chip, which I think is the same as the ones from www.ozxchips.com. It required sodlering a female socket to the LPC port, but means the chip is now easily upgraded to something like the Xodus Chameleon which also comes socketed.
I paid someone to do it because I simply don't have the time, effort or patience to do it myself ;) Besides, I get 6 months warranty and peace of mind knowing I won't blow my own xbox to bits :D
A friend of mine was going to do it himself, but when you can get your chip installed with on/off switch etc for $80, you gotta weigh up the pros and cons.
dvdude:
IS that the DX pro chip? If so where did you get it from/installed?
Im in sydney looking for a place to get equivalent of the Xecuter 2 Pro chip installed.
Thanks

Sorry if this sounds like spam, but it's probably going to answer any questions about the modder I used :) (no, it's not me, I would be one of the "botched" customers if I did it myself)
Watcher, please feel free to edit or delete if you feel necessary.
He is located in Hornsby (not too far from the Train Station)
Tell him Nathan sent you - he will look after you :)
(and no, I don't receive any $$ from him, just myself and my mate are very satisfied customers)

the Pro is a multibios, 512K verson of the DX.

One chip to stay right away from is the Evolution X chip (its a wire modchip) common amongst the markets installers. They are bad news, I have a few dead xbox that have had these babies installed. Get a socket chip.
