Hi, I wonder if someone would be kind enough to help me.
What is the best way to set up Foxtel Dig with a DVD player and a VCR.
I currently have scart to video 1 input (yellow Green, black leads going to DVD video one and scart out leads, blue white red to VCR in on vcr player.
I have a Svideo cable going to Rear Projection TV
Output from VCR is AV cables plugged into Video 2 on DVD.
This leaves Scart 2 with video in written on cables coloured yellow, red and white not being used.

Would I be better off getting rid of VCR and getting a DVD recorder?
If there is a web site that someone knows might help me, let me know as well.
Thanks in advance
Phil,

Phil,

i,m confused, where would you want to hook up a dvd player to fox digital. I cannot see any benefit or even if it is possible. A dvd recorder yes. The vcr should not be connected to a dvd anyway. You should connect your dvd player with component leads (blue, green, brown) to tv if you have this connection.fox digital gets hooked straight to the tv, best way is get a scart to svideo adaptor & use svideo lead to tv . the sound depends on what box you have & if you have a separate sound system.how many av sockets do you have on your tv

Hi and thanks for reply mate.
I just tried what you suggested and yes that is better.
I now have one scart lead with only video AV lead going to one of my TV's video inputs ( I have to buy a lead that converts the Video lead coming out of the 2nd scart lead to s-video or what I've read at this forum, RGB lead is even better than s-video, not sure if that is the case though)
The other leads from the foxtel scart is going to be dvd player (as that has a inbuilt home theare system ampiviler as part of it)
It's a LG one that came with Rear Proj TV.
It has two video / stero audio in sockets and one video /stero audio output sockets, plus a seperate S-vido out socket.
And with this current set up I can watch foxtel on two of my tv channels, as I'm getting the sound through home theatre speakers. I just change to channel with video only to it, to watch box office movies.

Another question if I may. If I buy a DVD recorder, I would have to buy a seperate amplivier for home thearte speakers and sub woofer, I assume?
thanks again Phil.

all I can tell you is how my setup is & maybe you will get some ideas.

fox digital connected to tv with scart to svideo adaptor which is svideo1.These adaptors have a switch on them so you can select in or out.
change foxtel setup from pal to svideo. Now when this done both scarts will output only to svideo.(or else you will see black & white picture)
dvd recorder is hooked up to tv with coaxial cable so it can tune in fta channels, just the same as a normal vcr.svideo lead from foxtel's other scart with s-video adaptor. There is a separate phono socket on fox box which is separate from the scarts so you can hook up a vcr with the worry of not having a svideo socket.

svideo lead from dvd recorder to foxtel svideo.normal audio rca leads(composite)from foxtel scart (either one doesn't matter) this gives audio from foxtel to dvd recorder (or vcr)
foxtel main sound comes from optical toslink with 3.5mm adaptor to surround system. My dvd recorder has optical sound out so another optical toslink goes to my sound system.(you can buy optical toslink switch box if you have only one.of course maybe you have not got the pace digital box so you will coaxial for sound. hope this helps, feel free to post again if you do not understand something.

Thanks again for reply.
I will have to digest it, but I get most of what your saying.
The foxtel box does have the optical sound out socket.
May I ask where you got the cables / adapters etc from,
I've looked at DSE and Tandy, they to me only appear to have some of what I need.
I gather your sound system is seperate to your dvd recorder.
Anyway I will go over my setup aganist yours.

Cheers
Phil

I had trouble buying the 3.5mm toslink. The only place I found it was Jaycar. At the time of purchase plenty of places had the optical lead with toslink at both ends but I wanted longer than 1mt. Jaycar had a 3.5mm adaptor which you just pushed on one end.I found 5mt optical cables at the warehouse (formally clints) they also sell very good svideo adaptors with gold connectors.

yes I have a separate component system which gives me digital sound & stereo . You can hook up anything to it.
