My new motherboard, the A7N266-VM is arriving tommorow morning, to go with my athlon XP1900+ and 256 DDR ram, 12gig and 20 gig hard drives and my LG CDRW.
I won't be using any extra cards, I'll stick with the onboard features for a while.

I have an older desktop ATX case sitting here that I've been meaning to do up for ages, and now that I'm finally getting around to it, I'm thinking the power supply might not be enough, it has an output of 235W and fuse rating of 5A, 250 V.

My question is, will this be enough? I'm clueless when it comes to power supplies, I've never had to worry about them. I know I really should use a 350W - 400W power supply, and I'll upgrade from this case in due time, but was wondering if it will at least get me through for a will till I find one I like and get the cash for it?

Thanks.

I think you will need a better power supply. You might end up with all kinds of weird problems with too little supply.

Yeah, in the long run you will probably want a bigger power supply. In the meantime, I guess you can always try out your 235W power supply just to see how it works. Just keep in mind that if you run into errors, blue screens, and all sorts of random goings on, it could very will be because the power supply is too small.

Now, there are power supplies with less total power than that work with Athlons (e.g., the power supplies in the Shuttle XPC line), but those were also designed with the Athlon in mind. I am guessing that yours is probably older than this.

I say go ahead and try it out for now, but be mindful of the consquences.
