I am currently building an HTPC based on the shuttle ST63k case. Great little box, very quiet once it has settled down. I have installed a pioneer DVR-108 to play/burn DVDs. Unfortunately it is very loud when playing a DVD. Is this normal for this player? If so, can anyone reccommend a quiet burner?
thanks

Check out www.rpc1.org and see if they have done a firmware for this model yet, previous model Pioneers have had a firmware available to slow down the playback speed to reduce the drive noise. Sounds like what you need.

Thanks. I had a look on rpc1 - there is updated firmware, but doesn't mention ability to change speeds - I think that may be limited to the retail version of the drive - I'll keep looking.

I have swiped the Gigabyte GO-W0404A from my wife's PC - very quiet. I won't need a dual layer recorder in the HT PC, so I'm ok. Thanks for your advice.
