I just bought the new 3rd gen MPEG4 DVD player Neuneo from ebay for $135 delivered from Sydney in about 3 days. I have been in contact with their support regarding WS DIVX and they have gone quiet after a few non helpful replies. WS DIVX does not fill the entire widescreen TV. Instead, it was letterboxed making it very wide. I have selected WS in the menu setup and WS DVD does fill the entire screen correctly. It is as if the player still thinks it is outputting it to 4:3 and letterboxed it even when I chose WS as my TV in the setup. Would you believe the support person said that WS DIVX is not supported and suggest that I zoom in the picture to fill the entire screen. That means loosing PQ and clipping the edges of the screen with no change to the wrong aspect ratio. I think a simple firmware upgrade would fix it but their technical support might not be competent enough to do it.

Sounds like this model might be based on the ESS chipset, as this is a problem common to ESS based players (e.g. XMS888 etc).
If it is, you will be in the same boat as everyone else with an ESS based player unfortunately, as they are all waiting on ESS to do something about it.
Sorry.
edit: have a look at www.ausdivx.tk, there are some screen shots there of different players setup menus.
If yours is very similar to the XMS888, then it is based on the ESS chip.
If it is similar to the XMS989, or the Zensonic 300 or 330, then it is mediatek based. (mediatek seem to be able to handle ws divx with ws tvs)

See specs:

It is the latest decoder with Qpel support and HDCD support as well. It was just released last month.

They do seem to have a firmware here http://www.neuneo.com/support/downloads/detail.asp?iFile=9&iType=9
but you might already have that version, and it doesn't sound like it will fix your problem.

3rd generation divx probably carrying Mediatek new chipset... see below for Waitec player released in US

Vision SLX is a super slim MPEG-4 DVD Player with DivX DRM, DivX Pro (GMC, QPEL / B-Frames) and XviD decoding capabilities. It offers a Progressive Scan function (thanks to its component video output) to enhance your visual experience and MPEG-4 support. Vision SLX also has a Slot-in mechanism and the new generation SOC decode chip from MTK, which ensures a more convenient system and more stable operations.

I just got a reply from Neuneo support. They have sent a bug report to the chipset maker and hopefully there will be a fix soon. It might be a great player but I suggest not to buy this player until a firmware fix has been released.

I've two MAJOR problems with the DV308, to the point I gave it away! It was supposed to replace a Neuneo Mediatek GE based player, but I've kept the Mediatek.

The worst fault is lip-sync. Even with original DVD-Videos it's out slightly. MC-1 to 0 AV sync delay.

The display is a interlaced CRT rear projection (not progressive therefore no delayed video processing) via Component. The same problem occurs with a PC monitor over VGA. No problems with other 6 DVD players/lip-sync with these two displays (Mediatek via VGA)

Another problem is the digital output; with Dolby Digital audio this player does not work properly with a Lexicon MC-1 (left in Automatic mode); the MC-1 has problems locking onto the signal- yet 6 other players have no problems what-so-ever with the Lexicon. The DV308 works with other DD decoders :rolling:

Neuneo need to sort these two out NOW!

Other faults are poor stretching of Mpeg-IV material (instead of horizontally stretching fully to screen width it has vertical borders on the left & right)- the Mediatek stretched to the correct size- no borders (except of course widescreen borders for widescreen material)
FFWD for DVD-Video & Mpeg-IV is very choppy, even at 2x. Mediatek perfectly smooth at 2x and 4x
Picture quality on zoom isn't as good as the Mediatek (no big deal)
Picture quality for Mpeg-IV doesn't seem as good as the Mediatek (quite a bit more blurry)
Auto mode - output PAL as PAL, NTSC as NTSC. It only has PAL & NTSC outputs (so will convert PAL DVD's to NTSC format if setting is to NTSC and vice versa)

Overall a crap player. Neuneo have not been helpful at all, considering two major faults. This is my second and last ever purchase from Neuneo. I've also flashed my Neuneo player with Zensonic firmware since they haven't bothered release their own MTK 1389 GE firmware (and perhaps never will)

Mr Whippy, which Zensonic firmware did you use to flash your DV308? It might solve my problem with widescreen DIVX. I have not noticed lip sync problems with my DVDs.

SORRY I should have been more clearer. I used the Z300 firmware with Neuneo's PREVIOUS DVD player, the one that looks like the Zensonic Z300.

This is not related to the DV308, and the firmware should not be loaded into the DV308. Totally different chipsets. The previous gen is a Mediatek 1389 GE, the DV308 is AMlogic.

I did a google and found out that the chip for DV308 is Amlogic 3285/3295. Looks impressive on paper but I think there are many issues that needs ironing out. I am a bit curious about the HDCD audio capability. I wonder if it does the full decoding of HDCD.

I have a player with this chipset and I can confirm that there are plenty of issues that would need to be resolved, most notable is very poor video quality, even with DVD, lots of work required before these are ready for market.

Hello all,
This maybe a dead subject, but I thought I'd add my 2 cents anyway.
Isn't there an AML3288 chip in the NeuNeo 308 and Not a AML3285/3295 chip ?

2 years ago, does it even matter now which revision chipset it had?
