Hey, just doing some reading for my exam on tues. and come across this thing called chat analysis where online researchers analysis the conversations that occur in chat rooms and forums etc. looking for opinon leaders and new trends etc etc. anyone know if that happens in here too?

I've heard of these through my studies too. They usually hang around for a bit and watch for who the opinion leaders are, like you said, and then get them onside with a product they are promoting or get them to sway anyone else in the room towards a certain idea.

It's become a more modern, less in your face, way of marketing

I don't know about here in particular but it definitely occurs in a newsgroup called aus.tv.pay (google groups) as a few Foxtel guys seem to have been sprung there in the past. Lots of posters are too one sided to be anything but employees:)
