ASTRA CODES OF PRACTICE
The Australian Subscription Television and Radio Association (ASTRA) has
developed Codes of Practice for subscription television broadcasting and
narrowcasting services and the Codes have been registered by the Australian
Broadcasting Authority. The Codes set out the obligations for subscription
television broadcasting and narrowcasting services in relation to issues
such as the classification of programme material and the placement of
advertising. Additionally, the Codes provide a framework for the handling of
consumer service issues, such as customer complaints and disputes about
fault repair and billing. Please call FOXTEL's Customer Solutions Centre on
131 999 if you would like a copy of the Codes.
---------------------------
Wouldn't it be interesting if Foxtel were inundated by everyone asking for a
copy of the Codes?
How about if we give it a try?

Well that wouldn't be in your best interest, would it Hammer? Foxtel will
work you to the bone making photocopies.
If you're so familiar with the Code why don't you tell us what it's all
about?
Why is it OK for them to fill the magazine with about 50 pages of ads plus
different advertising booklets bulging out. Why can't they throw in the
Codes of Practice for the masses to know what it's all about. Instead they
just mention it in small print in some obscure part of the magazine.

How about you just go to www.astra.org.au and download them. They're
hardly a secret document.

Since you don't seem to possess even the rudimentaries of common sense,
download the following at the link, which took all of 60 seconds to find
on the Internet:

But I'm not prepared to read a 48 page PDF file on a monitor. You see I
like to make notes in the margins and highlight important sections. And I
am not prepared to waste ink printing it. I think I'll call Foxtel and ask
them to send me a copy.
Thanks for the link though.

I couldn't really give a rats about the code. The code is designed for
whingers like yourself who have nothing better to do with their lives than
make long annoying posts to newsgroups in an attempt to generate support
from a couple of other losers with equally dull lives.

It's ok because it helps keep the cost of the magazines down to a reasonable
price in the same way advertising on the channels helps keep the
subscription pricing down to a reasonable level.
At the end of the day i am fairly happy with what i am getting from Foxtel
so have no need to see them incur additional costs for some loser's cause.

Yeah right!
I wonder how much the prices would've have increased otherwise. As if 19%
in half-a-year is not enough.

Can't you guys take any criticism about Foxtel? As soon as someone bags
Foxtel, Maiet and Hammer come to the rescue.
You guys are full of it!!
Thread by Hammer stating "Foxtel prices reducing" so that he can lick ass to
the Foxtel executives. So who is it who's trying to convert people? How
much did you get paid to start such a thread? Man, you should work for Fox
News.
A couple of years ago the Aussie $ was around 50 cents to the USD and Foxtel
were whinging that most of their content is from the US blah, blah, blah, so
that they can jack their prices up. Now that the AUD is around 75 cents we
have the Foxtel Fanbois come up with lines like "advertising on the channels
helps keep the subscription pricing down to a reasonable level" (Hammer).
Imagine the prices we would have had if the AUD was where it was a couple of
year ago. Worse still, imagine what would have happened if their prices
were directly linked with the price of oil.
I was zapping through some of the channels today and was amazed at all the
ads, that I actually thought I was watching FTA. Maybe they should now be
called the FoxtelColesMyer network.

Unfortunately the way the market is set up we don't have many options do we?
In areas where I can make changes I have. Dropped Telstra as my long
distance telephone provider and am already reaping the benefits. Switched
from Bigpond and can't be happier.
Dropped the one Foxtel service which I no longer require (thanks to the exit
clause), but I still need it at my primary residence.
The day I can get rid of my Foxtel / Telstra service altogether I'll be much
much happier.
In the past 5 years I have paid almost $12,000 to the Telstra and Foxtel
companies. At some point you look back and you realise that their service
is getting worse and you're paying more. A 19% increase in a little over 5
months is ludicrous. And now I'm getting all those ads that we're bombarded
with on FTA. Well I am taking action in the areas I can and I'm sure more
people will.
As I've mentioned previously, this is a public forum and I have every right
to frequent this newsgroup and make comments. I am still a Foxtel customer
and if something cheeses me off I'll express my opinion in this newsgroup.
I've also commented on other items relating to Foxtel that perhaps are of
interest to the newsgroup that I've come across (not necessarily bad - see
"Foxtel on Virgin Blue"), but it seems when we mention anything bad, the
Foxtel Fanbois come to their defense by using four letter obscenities
because they have no other arguements and can't accept the truth.

Not at all mate. Just idiots on stupid crusades that don't actually seem to
have a purpose. Look back at your original post. Let's ask foxtel for the
astra code of conduct. No reason. Just to be a pain in the ass.

Show me a service which charges the equivalent of A$40 for 126 channels and
i'll be the first to agree with your suggestion that Foxtel is unreasonable.
Until then, i'll continue to think Foxtel is pretty reasonably priced for
what you get.

I call that sensationalism, Hammer.
Telstra gave me free line rental for a month. Should I start a thread
titled "Telstra free line rental"? Essentially that is what you did with
your thread. You aroused interest from unsuspecting people and only after
being asked to
explain, did you reveal the actual circumstances. From about $94 per month
you're probably down to $92. Whoopee!
Dude, you'd make a great politician.

You have got to be kidding.
We'll not divide those 126 channels into 'usable or worthwhile'.
If Foxtel are targeting one legged, neo gay fascists with penile erectile
problems with body odour, then I guess, yes, such an individual 'might' look
or listen to one of those more obscure channels. Christ knows nobody else
would!
