Anyone here notice anything wrong with the DD5.1 sound on the HD broadcast
of Lord of The Rings tonight on the Nine Network in Perth? Everything was
going fine until the return to the movie after the last commercial break
then the decoder just wouldn't decode the DD5.1 stream.

Anyone else in Perth with a HD STB and who watched LOTR in HD notice this?

Cheers,
Alan

That must have really sucked.

I didn't bother to watch it. Who doesn't have it on DVD anyway?

I don't! ;) The DTV SD version will do me just fine, thanks. DD 5.1
sound would be better than DPL for a host of technical reasons, but as I
don't have the DVD it will be a good taster for if I do want to buy the
disc(s) of it.

Oh bugger!!!

I recorded it on the PC, and just checked it.
The final scene, after the last ad break, until the start of the
credits, had just white noise for audio. (Credits music was OK).
Did you get silence?

Unfortunately, I didn't record the SD audio. Maybe I can patch on the
sound from the DVD?? Is the broadcast AC3 the same as on DVDs?

Was it OK in other cities?

Didn't see it. Was there a trailer in the credits for next week? If
so, they would have remade the last seg, and maybe not taken notice of
the 5.1 audio when they did it. The same thing could have happenned if
the rest of the network had a promo and Perth didn't. they would have
fed the last segment out separately, possibly via a non 5.1 path.

I heard just what you heard - kinda like white noise. My HT processor said
the stream was DD (3/2) but there was just noise until the credits rolled :(

Dunno, never got around to hiring this movie.
