I had a Honda accord 1.8 with 450,000 on the clock.
The little civic's might be fuming at 250,000 k, but not the accord's and
other good engines.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy it at $4000 if its anywhere as good as the
seller makes out.

It went for about $5100. The seller took some more photos for me and I have
to say it did look awfully good all over. However I didnt get to bid, as in
the last few minutes it went past $4700, at which point I was losing
interest. Probably a good car all the same.

<Really? I can get an EF Fairmont for $5k these days? Must have a word to
the other half about getting out of that Charade...>
Check current Trading Post or your local paper. This one went for $5100
(4800 when I replied), but then add the extra for impending rego & CTP.

Generally.
Good cars that are cheap tend to sell quickly.

Just familiar with it.
I use ebay on an almost hourly basis, and have seen this car almost as much
as I've seen my own kids :)

Look around Daz.
I've seen EF Fairmonts in good condition get nocked back for under 4 grand
at auction houses many times.

6mths ago when I bought the Fairlane I started out looking for an EF/EL
preferably on gas.
I went to a lot of wholesalers with a mate who is a car dealer but
couldn't find anything that I would buy for anywhere near 4 grand, I
didn't go to any auctions because I was working afternoon shift.
Maybe next time I'll try an auction or I'll just get you to buy a car
for me:-)

I drove to the Central Coast to look at a bus that was on eBay
a while back. I concluded that the photographer was a genius,
as there was no way that the vehicle was anywhere nearly as
good as the photos made it look.
The thing was a wreck.
The only ways that I'd buy on eBay is to inspect personally
_before_ bidding or if the parts that form the vehicle were
worth a lot more to me than the price even if the condition
was far worse than advertised...

Houses are like that, too.
The house next door to mine has been on the market for about
8 months now. :-)
I think that the market is declining faster than the owners'
expectations. Cars tend to be like that, too.
The mere fact that that car has been on the market for 3 months
without selling devalues it relative to other similar cars...

Serious question...
As I post this, the price is $4000. I realise there is only so much can be
gleaned from a few small photos and description, but I´d be interested in
your opinions. Also, what price limit would you put on it?

Well, 240,000 km might be a bit high for a Honda, but some other cars can be
kicking on strong at that stage. Not an issue for David of course since his
parents will supply the next automatic Honda when the CR-V picnic table
develops a crack.

I tend to overlook km slightly in preference of the actual cars condition
and how it drives etc. Some cars at 250k km might look ok but are ttd
however, a different car may have the same mileadge and be better as it
depends on whether the km's were hard km's and/or how well maintained and
treated all it's life of that mileadge.

I'd be suspicious about this. Did the previous winner not pay after seeing
the car for the first time?
THIS WAS RE-LISTED AS THE WINNER OF THE LAST AUCTION DID NOT PAY

Seriously, would anyone who has a clue by a car from ebay? The amount of

Yeah I know. I think particularly with cars, you get ppl bidding on one,
then changing their mind when something else looks more interesting.
Having said, that... if I /did/ bid and win the car, I´d still thouroughly
inspect it prior to handing over any cash.

You could make the bid conditional on a auto club check. Just email the
person to get an ok to do this and place a bid.

This happens quite a lot on ebay, particularly with cars, and often has
little to do with the car itself.
People often commit themselves to a cheap car, only to realise *after*
they've bid and won that the car is in another state, or they've changed
their mind about the colour or price. You'd think someone would have to be
some special kind of stupid not to realise that a car they've bid on is
2000km's away from them, but it happens.
I've had it happen to me 4 times now. People just *don't* read adds
properly.
With that said, this guy has been trying to sell this Falcon for around
three months now, and it still hasn't sold. It's not particularly cheap
considering the price they can be purchased from at auction houses, unless
it is in exceptionally good condition.
