Im setting up my home theatre setup at the moment and am not sure on a
couple of the connections.
I have a subwoofer input on my Sony STR-DB790 (which i got for a good price
in the end btw) and i plug the other end into my DOSS Subwoofer but I dont
know where and what type of cable I should be using.
On the back of the DOSS Subwoofer I have a AUX left and right plugs and also
AC 3 inputs (6- centre/sub, surr/sub and front/sub). I also have output
speaker connections front/centre/surround. I doubt they are relevant as
speakers are feeding into sony receiver.
Can someone assist ?

You just need a single coaxial cable with RCA connectors on the ends. Plug one
into the subwoofer OUTPUT of the receiver and the other into the subwoofer INPUT
on the sub.

Thats what I thought. In the end of the Sony Receiver there is ONE connector
into the Receiver, in my DOSS Subwoofer there are two inputs (Aux L and R
red and white colour coded) and 6 inputs for AC3.
Last night I plugged one end into the Sony Receiver using an adapter and the
red and white cable into the DOSS Auxiliary L and R inputs.
I turned it on and was getting as large humming sound from the subwoofer.
Right or wrong, good or bad ?

What I was trying to say is you should connect it to the AC3 sub input on the
sub-woofer.

Try what I suggested above, and also try just plugging the cable into the AUX L
only IF IT IS MARKED AS AN INPUT and not an OUTPUT. Don't worry about the
adapter if it's just a Y connector or cable.

Humming sounds wrong.

It is hard to answer your question without the model number of the DOSS
system.
I assume that you have connected the Sony AV receiver to you
DVD/CD/VCR/STB/TV and connected the satellite speakers directly (not via the
DOSS Sub) to the speaker terminals on the Sony receiver. To use the DOSS
subwoofer you need to connect the subwoofer pre-out on the the back of the
Sony receiver to the subwoofer input on the DOSS subwoofer (will be one of
the 6 inputs on the back of the subwoofer - normally marked something like
INPUT - SUBWOOFER). Use a standard audio cable with RCA connectors on both
ends (don't use a coaxial cable - this is an analogue audio signal not a
digital signal).

Ok - found the model. Adam, prior to getting the Sony Amp you would have
had six cables (5.1 sound format) for sound running from the DVD player's
5.1 outputs to the 5.1 inputs on the DOSS amp, these would have been marked
something like FL(Front Left), FR(Front Right), C(centre), RL (Rear Left),
RR(Rear Right), Sub(Subwoofer).
You should now have the DVD player connected to the Sony Amp via a digital
link (optical or coaxial) or using the 5.1 Channel analogue inputs on the
back of the Sony connected to the 5.1 outputs of your DVD player(6 cables).
The small speakers should also be connected to the Sony Amp speaker
terminals instead of the DOSS subwoofer.
All you need to do is connect the Subwoofer output on the Sony Amp to the
Subwoofer Input on the DOSS Subwoofer and you are away.
Cheers

This review detailed the setup just enough for me to figure out how the DOSS
system is connected.

Does the system work now?
