It isn't documented in timmy's flashing method, but I have heard on these forums you should disable caches.
But, wouldn't this screw over a warm reboot on a failure?

I never disabled any cache when flashing. I have always removed any autoexec or config.sys from the boot floppy though.

It's ok to leave caching options enabled, but all of the shaddowing options should be disabled, especially when flashing the BIOS.
