So when someone disagrees with you, you just claim they are being
irrelevant. And when someone challenges you to back up your opinions
with evidence you just claim it is "common knowledge" that "everyone
knows".
Brilliant.
Perhaps you've been out in the sun too long? I blame daylight saving.

I didn't say that. I said he was oblivious to common, well documented

As I said, proving that the bigger states subsidise smaller states is like
proving water is wet. Do I need to prove that water is wet?
I would also remind you that I backed up my stements with verifiable fact.

Because the "knowledge" you presented said nothing remotely
like your states support the physically larger states. All
it said was that you pay more GST than you get back, a very
childish and simplified attempt to fraudulantly claim that
you guys support the West and North. I decimated that
argument by demonstrating what a spit in the ocean your GST
loss actually is compared to the monolithic amount of money
WA's resource industry alone provides to the country, and by
also proving that WA alone (without even checking on the NT)
provides over 50% of ALL Australian resources.
This was a bit too much for you to take in so you crawled

And like everyone else is pointing out, that's a load of
shit. I could say that proving you're a granny basher is
like proving water is wet, do I need to prove that water is
wet? By babbling on like that I've done nothing to add any
weight to the argument that you're a granny basher, so it
astounds me that you think you can win a failing argument
purely by throwing in that bit of rhetoric.

No, as I point out above and in another post in this thread
made 5 or 10 mins ago, you just seem to be ignoring the
posts (4 of them now) where I've pointed out exactly how
much WA's resource industry is worth to Australia, and the
fact that all of your whinging turns into a spit in the
ocean in comparison.

No, the Eastern states aren't our markets at all. WA provides this
country's *export* income. Our resources are sold to markets
*overseas*. The revenue from this process is then taxed by Canberra
and transferred to the Eastern states by government transfers. Then it
is spent by consumers in the East on imported goods. This spending
*consumption* is what is taxed by the "broad based consumption tax" -
the GST. The GST that Jeff Carr (is that his name?) is so often heard
whinging about.
The irrationality of Hoohtee, Carr, et. al. is in trying to claim that
*consumption* and *production* are the same thing. They are opposites.
Rather than it being, as she claims, as obvious as the proposition
that "water is wet", Hoohtee's argument is more akin to "water is
dry".

Supply and demand.
oversupply the product gets cheap
short supply the product gets more expensive.
You want `just in time ' products to get the best sustainable price or
"supply = demand"
Is that what they are talking about?

Irrelevant. Why do you Eastern staters keep trying to equate
government tax revenue with economic production? That is the same
nonsense "Hoohtee" has been sprouting. And no, our state government is
not short of money, like yours. That is why we aren't trying to
scrounge $130000000 from you to fix our rivers. That is why we
backward hicks in WA do not "enjoy" the "benefits" of toll roads.

No, production and consumption are *not* synonymous with "supply and
demand". Let me repeat, since you seem to have missed it the first
time, YOU ARE NOT OUR MARKET. WA exports, NSW imports.

Yes, we all live on government handouts over here. That's how we get our
money. Nobody works for privately owned businesses.
Please explain how federal money transferred to NSW gets into the hands of
the consumers. That's a slight hiccup in your theory.

These figures are incorrect. The ASX document refers to adults aged 18 years
and over. The figures used above include people under 18 years and do not
take into account the actual percentages listed. The actual figure
(43%NSW+38%VIC+36%QLD) works out around 4 million. Add in ACT and TAS and
the figure climbs to around 4,223,629

As per above the actual figure is around 894,000. Factor in NT and the
figure is 938,842
The population figures I used came from www.aec.gov.au

I had worked out the ratio of people in Eastralia who owned shares (totals)
to people who own shares in Westralia is 4-5 to 1 (between 4 and 5 to 1)
4223629/ 938842 = 4.49876
It is plain this ratio would only increase if ACT , Tassie and NT were
added to the mix.
Your figures are just as valid as the ones I used to work out the ratios.

Bob Carr wants to keep the GST and handover the hospitals to the Feds.

Ignoring the larger individuals personal wealth in Eastralia and assuming
that
all other things being equal, you are looking at 4 - 5 to 1 investment
ratio value.

Since 1989-1990, Western Australia has been Australia's major exporting
state,
accounting for a quarter of Australia's total exports. By contrast, the
state's merchandise
imports have averaged 8% of the value of Australia's imports over the same
period; and
~
While strong world demand for Western Australia's rich resources has
positioned the state as Australia's leading exporter, demand for
merchandise
imports is driven more by the need to sustain the state's industry and
population.
As such, Western Australia ranked fourth (after the larger eastern states)
in terms
of its contribution to the value of Australia's imports (9% in 1999-2000).

Export dollars for Coal alone is greater than total Gold and Iron ore
and is worth 85% of Total gold, Iron ore and Petroleum. BTW Westralia
isn't teh only producer of these products. You produce 70% of Australia's
total gold.
Where I live
on the shores of Lake Maquaire we have been mining coal for at least 170
years
and Westralia has been sharing that wealth since 1901.
I'm not familiar with Coal resources inWestralia ?

Again there is an error in the above. Your calculation divides the number of
voters in QLD, NSW, ACT,VIC & TAS by the total population of QLD, NSW &
VIC. Using the correct figures to calculate the ration for QLD, NSW & VIC
only the ratio is 0.645

Same error. The actual ratio for WA and SA is 0.638
