But......
If your story were true, you'd be turning with the traffic coming from your
left side, which also would have to be stopped (not moving) by the prescence
of said super-long new white tram.

Yes, thats true, *until* it had cleared enough of the intersection for there
to be room for one lane to start moving, then the next... which meant I
was lucky last.

The driver of such a long tram (or any tram really) should not have
attempted to cross the intersection, knowing that he had about 1 second
until the lights changed, yet it would in fact take him about 15 seconds to
fully cross the intersection.
