A Coat hanger (or two ) is the method I have used.

you might need a torch and mirror to see down into some.


My brother had spent a half hour trying, so when I got there I just shot
the coat hanger down and got it first go.

But if you can't see down then thats a bit hard.

I suggest you dont try to lift or move the grate yourself those heavy things
can take off a toe or finger. and its easy to do some back injury, hernia,
Or tear a leg ligament.

Maybe with some you can put a car jack in to left up the front ?
