Those prices *are* insane, considering a Discovery cost only $39,990 back in
1997.

NFI?

But it might be those like Citroen had in the 50's that are quasi connected
to the steering so you can see around bends better?

Yup, checked on the web..
On a site purporting to review the things, but which in reality
regurgitated the press release crap...
"Safety:
Safety features include adaptive headlights that "look" around corners
and adjust up and down to counter the effects of hard braking,
four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, active anti-roll
technology, hill-descent control, side-impact and head curtain airbags
and even an electronic parking brake. The LR3 has not yet been crash
tested."

So despite the adage (and book title) 'Ya can't see round corners',
apparently, ya can..
What's really really disturbing is the bit about the headlights
compensating for brake 'dive'. This is fucked in the extreme, because
wankers who go out and buy these devices will have their
'lookatmeI'mawanker' Foggies on, and almost certainly have their
headlights set as if they have a bullock strapped to the bonnet and
don't.
Therefore there'll be NO ESCAPE, people, when being followed by these
jerks.
Looks like a momentary switch is gonna be fitted poste-haste to
operate both the cargo tray and reversing QH (extra and marginally
legal)lights on the ute.

According to Drive magazine, the price of a dicovery 3 V8 has jumped
$32,160 or 65% more expensive than the current model. Considering the
history of poor quality for Land Rover and the fact that more reliable
Japanese trucks dominate the Disco's market, perhaps they are being a
tad foolish?

Compare the 42% increase in price to some other 4WDs: The cost of a CRV has
increased only 7% since 1997. Cherokee & Pathfinder have gone up only 4%.

At those prices I hope they weren't planning on selling many.
Disco's are very nice to drive but are IMO too expensive.

A bit more than a tad, in the past they were very competitively priced,
I've even considered buying one several times but now they are more
expensive than some of the Japanese 4WD's that have far better
reputations.

Kicks off @ $56k [Calais money] so its not so bad [similar-spec Prado is not
much less]

As always, if you want the luxo model you pay $$$. Consider it a discount
RangeRover and it looks reasonable

Well, Jeremy Clarkson likes it. :-)

On Top Gear recently, he only got 10 miles to the gallon driving the
V8 version around town, but what impressed him was the ability to
drive it from a beach to the top of a mountain in Scotland. No roads,
just river beds, peat bogs and rocky outcrops to traverse.

The Stig didn't take it around the track, BTW.
