Hey
This is a bit stupid but it's something that i was just thinkin, What
if i could stick a turbo in my colt. What turbo would i be lookin at?
set up? Estimated Power output? would it be worth it? well prob not
but hey! I'm gonna be owning it for a while and i was thinkin what if
i could use it as a little project. I have this image of pulling up in
my '89 5 speed colt against a lancer or whatever and leavin em for
dead. Just a thought.

Well, I thought about a similar idea but the Colt isn't a car that takes too
well to modifications. I just added a set of extractors and traction has
gone out of the window. Still, some decent wheels/tyres would help that and
as a project could be a bit of fun but if I where you, unless you have money
to burn, you would be better off saving for something that provides a better
basis before you start throwing money at modifications.

Clockmeister.

Mitsubishi did make a turbo-charged Colt - it was marketed in NZ as a Mirage
and came with a 1.4 litre turbo engine matched to their "Super Shift" 8
speed gearbox. I used to own one. Shitloads of torque steer and shitloads of
get up & go. I even towed a caravan with it which was a tad dangerous as the
van weighed nearly as much as the car.

If you shifted from low first to low second and then high second gear you
could blow off most V8's up to 100kph. Only hassle was it didn't have a
non-return valve in the oil line to the turbo so you had to let it idle for
a couple of minutes after a bit of spirited driving. Turbo timers weren't
around then.

About half way down this page you can see a friend's colt with a turbo
hanging out the bonnet. Ignore what's painted on the car, someone found a
spray can after having a few too many beers.
