Yep I got an XMS989 two weeks ago, so far it plays all Xvids without a problem but so far not one Divx5 file has worked.

Anyone had this happen to them?

If I put a disc with a divX5 file in the player, it sees the file as an avi file but when you hit play it sort of tries to work but returns to the folder menu screen.

Another divX5 movie file would make the XMS989 hang when play was pressed.

All the Divx5 files play fine on the PC !

So far I have been unable to get a Divx movie file to play on the XMS989 :(

I will appreciate any help with this, last option is to take it back for a refund.

Cheers

You need to check your files, the 989 handles divx5 files that are correctly encoded without an issue, the fact that you files play on the PC are no indication that the files are ok, a hardware player works differently to a PC. Get your self a copy of gspot (google it, you'll find it straight away) and post the details of the file, you'll get some feedback about why you are having issues.

This list was drawn up a while ago, but shows some formats that I tested on the 989, and if they worked (no problems with divx5)...

Yep I had a look at your list and Divx files should work on my XMS989.

Please could I ask if someone from the forum could send me a test divx file that they know works on their XMS989 to try on my XMS .

thanks in advance

If you want, there is a test disc, available from here
ftp://ftp.mtu.ru/pub/horgi/outdoor/DivXTestCD.zip
This has a lot of samples etc for testing.
Warning: about 650MB

Have just found a site with Divx5 movie trailers...
tried 3 movie files encoded with Divx5 and all worked.

So my machine does work :)

Not sure why some files do not work, but I can live with it as long as more play than not.

Only thing ...like everyone else who has an XMS989 that damn OSD annonying 'Tape counter thing' in the top left hand side of the screen staying on, this will no doubt cause burn in on the screen in a short while.

Surely the manufacturers have identified this as a problem that "they should" fix.

Lets hope for all XMS989 owners that a fix for this turns up soon from somewhere or someone.

Thanks to all who replied to my orginal question.

The OSD fix is still being followed up, been getting the run around but haven't given up chasing the factory for it. As soon as it turns up I'll post details here.
