What is the situation with multi channeling ?
Surely that was the opportunity to show McGrath getting his 50 on another 9
digital channel ?

i dont care about the cricket, but it is stupid that we actually have
legislation that allows Nine to continue coverage of things like this, while
not disrupting normal scheduled programs, but even 4 years after the
implementation of digital TV, they still won't use it to its best ability
(or at least to what is allowed) and then they wonder why people are not
buying digital tuners.

I'm certainly not going to till the end.
I've installed a few terrestrial DSTB's, SD type, and people are happy
enough with the pics, some are overwhelmed by the improvement on their new
huge rear projection tellies!
One SD box I've found utterly stupid, the
http://www.teac.com.au/documents/DVB350.pdf (a few Kb's) This idiotic heap
of pottage has no DELETE or SKIP function - so you can turn off the
downloaded 'HD' channels or 'unused spares'. The owner therefore has to
'tolerate' these.
Yes, you can rename them. Yes, you can 'lock' them, but scrolling through
the channels these 'not needed' services appear each time to annoy you.
To date, the upgrade option has not appeared at 'downloads' to bring fourth
this necessity. Stupid. The other Teac boxes do have the ability.
So if your going to buy ANY SD or HD box, just make sure you have those
abilities (delete and/or skip) in addition to 'rename and lock'. With
Teac's DVB350 One 'downloads' to it using a SCART and DB9, 'Oh, do you sell
these cables Mr Teac/Retailer? - No, but you can make them'. Effing
hopeless.
For me, I'd only buy a STB from a maker who has a history of selling
Satellite STB's, those I can trust. These "come lately's", no.
OT
What would be useful is for SBS to recode their channel names, so that 'SBS
Digital Two' reads 'SBS World News'- channel, that sort of thing.
I challenge any of you to visit Big W to see if you can spot a digital STB.
I found one at Tuggerah (NSW) but it was a group of five boxes 'Thompson' I
think up high and, no, she didn't have a ladder to bring one down, oh well.
Probably get the same result from K Mart with no STB's 'on show'. But KM
does have 'satellite quality' terrestrial splitters that even DSE or Jaycar
don't carry. (Wideband). Plus, quad shield coax and F connectors and
plates. Not bad for a retailer, so buy from K Mart instead 'bits' needed.
For me - its cheaper to buy bits through Sat TV shops.
What I like, is people now asking 'can I watch Nines Sports Active on my
STB?' - No. 'I was told it had all these great features'....

Oz, I am talking about the DV-B350 as having no skip function, which model
are you discussing? If your running the DV-B350 AND the firmware below,
your saying it has added the skip function??
Below is the new firmware from Teac - NO skip function added, indeed TEAC
say on the phone 'its not available' - yet.
DV-B350 Software Version is now v2.6.71
Upgrade Details:
Customers with earlier software we recommend you update your set-top
box. If you have any problems to do this, please contact TEAC.
Since the initial DV-B350 release, we have made many improvements.
New Improvements:
a. Added channel 9A to the search tables for Canberra, Mackay and
Hobart users.
b. Improvements to teletext and closed captioning.
c. Improvements to auto-tuning function.
d. Improved the Now & Next information updates.
e. Fixed the auto removal of channels.
The required files (select items below for download)
SPECIAL RS232 TO SCART MUST BE MADE TO CONTINUE

When this pathetically assenine, abysmal, backward stupid, stuck in a
1950's
time-warp Neanderthalic Philistine country gets its act together and
allows more commercial tv channels on the digital spectrum -- forget
it !!!
We should be ashamed of ourselves....
When American & Canadian visitors come to this country they are
dismayed by
the lack of choice of commercial tv in this country....
This country needs to get it's act together -- NOW !!!!

they'd probably also notice not so many infomercials, trailer trash talk
shows, and syndicated reruns of "Mama's Family" :)
but you think they travel all this way just to watch TV?

totally agree with you, living in NY for the past 3 months I'm amazed at how
good the calibre of Australian TV is.
We basically get the best of whats available here in the USA so we get a
better more condensed choice.
I was stunned that on Sunday night there was nothing I wanted to watch on
about 300 channels. (having said that I chose a movie on demand).
There are some shows we miss out on in Australia, Extreme Engineering has
been one of the surprise standouts that just amaze and enthral me when I
have a 'I'll just watch this for 5 mins' then end up watching the entire
show.
There is also another show called Mythbusters that I would truly love to be
picked up by someone in Australia, basically a show about two guys who prove
or disprove real life myths, eg can you jump upwards in a crashing elevator
to save your life (no), do you get wetter walkign or running in the rain
(walking is drier), can you find a needle in a haystack (yes)
They must have an amazing budget because they really go all out to prove or
disprove myths.
anyway thats my 0.02 worth.
