Something odd is going on. I'm in Darlinghurst (central Sydney) and
some time last night my Kaon lost reception on ABC, 7 and 10. ABC is
sort-of back now but so glitchy it's unwatchable whereas 7 and 10 just
give me the little flashing aerial icon. I've tried the "unplug the
power, wait, power back on" trick but it doesn't seem to work.

Should this ever happen or is there something dreadfully wrong with the
building aerial?

Any clues?

Cheers, Robert.

hmmm... I have a Opentel PVR and its been doign the same thign since
last night - we lost 10, and 9. This morning we lost 2 for a bit. Funny
thing is, we could record 10, but just not watch it.
ANybody else having problems?

JOe

It's given me the shits and I've done a factory reset and re-tune. Now
it's only picking up ABC, 9, SBS and 44! To add insult to injury, the
dba.org.au site says *all* my signals should be coming from the Elan
building in King's cross. I'm in Darlinghurst. Line of sight.

Fuck it, I'm going to ring 10.

Cheers, Robert.

Found out what's going on. Original problem was that they moved the
transmitter to the Elan building in Kings Cross and now my building's
in the shadow of Horizon (why didn't they put the transmitter on
Horizon, the tallest building in this part of the city?). They put
six new digital amplifiers in to correct the problem but a couple
of days later someone nicked five of them!

It'll be fixed soon, the building super tells me...

Cheers, Robert.

Hi Rob,

My channels are back online - we're in North Strathfield, so not sure
which transmitter would affect us, but it works, so I'm happy again.
cheers,

It's all fixed now. What they've essentially done is put a digital
decoder for each channel up on the roof now and are decoding the DVB-T
broadcast, amplifying it and shooting it down the wire to all the
apartments in the building on VHF.

Luckily they're also amplifying the "raw" RF signal so I can decode it
myself with my Kaon PVR. One tip: If I get the Kaon to tune
automatically I get the ABC which is at 20-something. But the TV guy
tuned it manually into the ABC on 400-odd, which is the one coming from
King's Cross (the 20-something one is from Gore Hill). Should be more
reliable reception now.

Cheers, Robert.
