I'm pretty sure it is 420W mate. Not 100% sure though.

That seems a little high, cause this is an "older" computer (2001 i think). But, it would be great if it was 420.

I would be also surprised if it came with a 420 watt power supply. Even so, I do not think the fans will be a huge deal. Combined, they would take up about 12 watts. Both of them run off the 12V rail. Using the formula, (watts = voltage * amps), that comes out to about 1 amp of current coming out of the 12V rail. Unless your power supply is already at its limit, I do not anticipate problems.

Alright thanks Alex. Also, quick question, I'm probably going to build a computer, I don't know why this one works fine but, I'm like addicted to computers now. Anyway I'm going to shoot for an AMD 64 (maybe 3400+ if I have enough $$$, but most likely 3000+ it is really really cheap like $150 I think). Anyway is this a good mobo, or should I invest more money in it?

Thanks.

It should be a good motherboard. I usually like Gigabytes. However, the moderator of the Gigabyte forum over at NForcersHQ ("stitch") seems to be kind of down on the current crop of NForce3 Gigabyte motherboards, which kind of gives me pause. Here is an example of what I mean: http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=54923

Then again, I can think of all sorts of problems that people have had with my current model motherboard (Epox 8RDA+) that I never had, so go figure. You can probably say that about any motherboard. Reading forums, one can often get a picture that is too gloomy (because the only people who post are there because they have problems) or too rosy (because the people there are too rah-rah, take a look at some of the reviews at Newegg).

Actually, if you can wait a month or two, I would. The reason I say that is that AMD64 motherboards with PCI-Express should be out by then, replacing the AGP slot. Most newer graphics cards seem to be coming out in PCI-E first, with an AGP version maybe coming out later. Also, the PCI-E graphics cards seem to be cheaper than their AGP versions.

Like I said, I would expect the K8NS Pro to be a good motherboard, but I do not have any personal experience to back that up. It seems to be a good value for the money.

I see what you mean. I will probably end up waiting a few months just because all I have money for is a new case (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=11-156-135&depa=1) and the fans that we're earlier mentioned. Yeah, they like to over exaggerate reviews, I saw one at Newegg (might have been Tiger I forget). I think it was about an AMD XP 2400+, I don't know if it's true because it's kind of hard to believe, but they said it's better than their friends dueling Intel P4's @ 2.6 GHz. Which is kind of "unbelievable", anyway, thanks for the info Alex, you’re always a big help.

i made a thread about this awhile ago, and no one had an exact answer, but determined it didnt really matter. anyway, my mom is acting odd and is on a 'guilt trip' i think and is offering to buy me a new video card, so i found this one http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1221040&CatId=935
prolly not gonna order from tiger, but still thats the one, and it requires a 300 watt psu, and i really doubt this comp has a 300 watt psu, but im just curious of what it is....sony vaio pcv-rx570.... it's not printed on the psu and ive looked everywhere online, and i dont have the manual for the comp cause i bought it from my friend and he doesnt have it either...so if anyone know's that would be great...

thanks

OK, I have done a ton of Googling, and I have found two Sony part numbers that may be yours: 146860114 (possibly replacing the 146860113) or 146860123 (possibly replacing the 146860111). The first one appears to be a 280W power supply, and the other one is a 268W jobber.

Thank you very much Alex. So, it's definatly over 250?

From what I could find, anyway, yeah. It was a long trail Googling, mostly through miscellaneous spare parts dealers. I am not sure I can recreate the path, but those were the wattages that I found. It would make sense for your computer, though.

Alright, thanks a bunch. I'm finally upgrading my video card to prolly a ATI RADEON 9600PRO EZ Video Card ( http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-131-262&depa=1 )

Do you think this will suffice for Counter Strike : Source?

Thanks,

Chris.

Mmmm, I would guess 800x600 with medium settings, but that is just a rough guess. I really do not know for sure, though. I took a quick look through the Steampowered forums, but could not get a really good feel.

If you do get the card, let me know how it goes. I have a friend with a system similar to yours, but with only 128 MB RAM. He has been holding out on getting HL2 because of this.
