You could get a prepaid international plan (fixed line) from
www.digiblue.com.au for 3c a minute to the UK.
If you have to make your calls from a mobile, you could access the above
using a mobile prepaid SIM from www.revtel.com.au which is 20c a minute.
Total of 23c a minute plus flagfall of 59c total.
There are plenty of other cheap phonecard providers. Even "Telstra Say
G'Day" card is 3.9c a minute (www.saygdaycallingcard.com). Some other
cards are down to 0.3c per minute! See www.phonecardrates.com.au
I'd check with digiblue (or other phonecard providers) that they allow
access via mobile phone. "Telstra Say G'Day" for example says you can't
call from a prepaid mobile. You'd also want to check the access number for
the calling card is a normal phone number and not a 1300 or 1800 number as
calls to them cost more from a mobile.
The UK is one of the top overseas phone call destinations from Australia
and there are plenty of special deals for it from landlines - especially
with phonecards.
If you will have access to a PC with broadband internet, you could consider
VoIP especially if the people you will be talking to have PC's with
broadband internet. Even if not, Skype for example is 1.7 euro cents per
minute to the UK (about 2.9c or 1.2p).
If you want to call a mobile in the UK, all the above are likely to be
dearer.
