According to the Vodafone website, their PXT messages are limited to 50KB.
My Sagem myV-55 can take VGA resolution pictures at 640 x 480 with an
average size of about 57KB, (just over Vodafone's limit), while pictures in MMS
resolution of 160 x 120 are about 7KB.

So do the different networks have different size limits?

PXT isn't true MMS

>So do the different networks have different size limits?

No. MMS is 100kb. Some networks invent their own messaging format
which has different size limits to MMS.

The biggest hurdle in sending MMS messages is phone compatibility.
Some phones like the k700i can support a much larger picture
resolution that other phones. All phones accept the low resolution
images, but the higher resolution pics like 320x240, 640x480 and
higher can only be supported by some phones.

When I want to create a message, my phone asks if I want to send an SMS
or an MMS message.
So when does an MMS message become a PXT message, (or vice versa).
Do Vodafone convert true MMS messages to their own PXT format, and apply
their 50KB limit.

I just thought that PXT was just the name that Vodafone were using to describe
MMS, I didn't think it was a different format.

Yeah, its usually Telstra that comes up with wanky terminology.
I remember once they had an advertisement for their off-peak rates, calling
them StarSaver rates. Sheesh

Vodafone is still sending my PXT messages with pictures of up to 130KB
just fine...

MMS you can send anything - pics, vids, sounds, etc.
PXT you can only send - pics

Just like EMS is a cutdown version of MMS, so is PXT

Hi Brissie
Vodafone have free PXT until January, so does that mean that if I send just a picture
Vodafone will class it as a PXT and send if for free, but if I add some text to the picture
Vodafone will class it as an MMS and charge me?

Cheers
Ian

You can send any MMS data for free, including piccies (with and without
text), ringtones etc to any network. The Vodafone site says you cannot just
send plain text MMS messages for free, but I have not yet been charged for
any plain text MMS yet, and this offer has been running for over 6 months
now.
