Been trying to search with no luck.

With more and more cars coming out with TA (traffic announcement capability)
in Australia, does any station here transmit this?

I know only a little about this, but it seems my car has RDS and the only
station that broadcast their name in Perth is Nova 93.7. Searching for TA
finds nothing. My car stereo is also capable of storing these TA and
replaying it. This would be an absolutely fantastic feature to be able to
hear traffic reports at the press of a button.

Similar situation in Melbourne - Fox, Mix and GoldFM broadcast their name
and genre. Nova did this for a while too but seem to have stopped.

No one does TA.

It doesn't happen when u press of a button, but pressing the button will
arm the system. In the UK where I have experienced it. If you have traffic
selected, the traffic announcement will breaking over the top of the program
u are listening to. The announcements appears to be independent of the
station u are listening to and u will receive announcements for the
surrounding areas. On a long trip the stations giving the announcements will
change. Another cool feature is that if u a receiving a network station (eg
BBC4) the radio will retune itself to the nearest transmitter and you will
be usually unaware on a long trip of a number of changes that occur while u
continue to listen to the program.

My car radio displays quite a few station names Nova, MMM (forgot the last
one)

Any idea how this is done? Would like to pass this info onto the engineers
at our local community station.

The TF is not used in AUS but some stations as you read do use RDS merely to
signal their callsign.

TF is used in Germany (Telematics is deloping), ideal for the autobahn - you
can be playing a tape/CD and if an announcement is to be made it will play
over the other media types - "Motorists on the A6 beware an Australian
driver in the middle lane not keeping right (left) -that sort of thing.

RDS can be set so you can listen to a network such that when you enter
another geographical area, it searches for another stronger signal
automatically.

Thought that many moons ago too, 'the industry' and major sellers
(Strathfield) are reluctant to do this, therefore most Aussies cannot
comprehend this informational stuff.

Maybe one day...
