7. This week's top 50:

The charts can be very frustrating for some artists, as Joel Turner
discovers this week. Joel's "These Kids" has been steadily climbing
the charts since its release in early October, and it moved from
number 3 to 2 last week, held out of the top spot by Delta Goodrem's
"Out Of The Blue". However, Joel was close to toppling Delta
last week, with his single outselling Delta in around half the
inidividual state markets. So with the battle for number one
so close last week and Joel clearly picking up momentum, a
number one this week for him was quite possible. As it has
turned out, this week Joel has finally outsold one of Australia's
most successful artists of the moment, Delta Goodrem. However,
what Joel didn't count on was a brand new entry at number one,
forcing him to spend another week at number 2, and resulting
in Delta's "Out Of The Blue" slipping down to number 3 this week.

Five new entries into the top 50 this week, with 2 of those
crashing into the top 5 (see below). Also managing to enter
the top 10 this week is Simple Plan. Their new single, "Welcome
To My Life", climbs from number 11 to 8, eclipsing the number
10 peak of their last single, "Addicted". This week the
top 10 farewells Green Day's "American Idiot", Jo Jo's number
2 hit "Leave (Get Out)" and after 11 weeks in the top 10 it
is all over for Missy Higgins' chart-topping "Scar" E.P.
But Missy will be back - her new single, "Ten Days", goes
on sale next week.

Further to the recent fiasco concerning ARIA not including a
number of Australian artists in their "Top 20 Australasian chart",
they have finally responded to the barrage of "please explains"
sent to them by myself and other interested parties. As the
situation stands, ARIA follows the exact information that
record companies provide about how they'd like their single
listed in the chart. For a number of Australian artists,
including Masonia and Figgkidd, their record company has not
communicated to ARIA about their artists' origins. Due to
limited resources, ARIA doesn't always have the time to investigate
the origin of an artist, thus a genuine Australian artist may not
appear in their "Top 20 Australasian chart" simply due to
missing or incorrect information supplied by record companies.
And record companies do make mistakes galore, with a classic
case occuring recently when ARIA were told that Australian
country singer Slim Dusty's origin was the Netherlands, thus
meaning he had no place on the local artist chart with the album
he released at the time! So to record companies and Australian
artists out there - make sure you let ARIA know that you are
Australian so you can also appear in their top 20 local artist
chart. And to ARIA - please put in time and resources to investigate
the origin of artists. Writing that Masonia are a Sydney band in
their "Chartifacts" publication but not specifying them as an
Australian artist in the chart is such a striking contradiction.
As for the Natasha Bedingfield issue, her record company has
advised ARIA she is of New Zealand origin and should be noted
as such on the ARIA charts. This is despite the fact brother
Daniel Bedingfield (who, unlike London-born Natasha, was actually
born in New Zealand) was not requested to be listed in the
"Top 20 Australasian chart" by his record company. Further to
that, the official RIANZ charts of New Zealand show Natasha
Bedingfield is NOT a local artist - so at least RIANZ have it
right, and we should base official classification on what they
declare.

Now onto this week's new entries...

1. JUST LOSE IT - Eminem
It is clear the new millennium has brought Eminem no less
than fairy tale success in the music industry. In 2001, his
"Marshall Mathers LP" scored him a number one smash with
"Stan", while his "The Eminem Show" album from 2002 yielded
an amazing four top 5 singles, including 2002's biggest seller
of the year, "Without Me". He also enjoyed the second biggest
selling single of 2003 with "Lose Yourself" - it spent an
incredible 12 weeks at number one and it was Eminem's
contribution to the soundtrack of the movie "8 Mile", in
which he played the starring role. And while all this was
going on, Eminem was releasing material as part of the
group, D-12. Earlier this year, D-12 topped the charts
with "My Band" and followed it up with the top 5 smash,
"How Come". Now Eminem returns with some solo releases,
including his new album, "Encore", which goes on sale
next week. The first single off "Encore" is the track
"Just Lose It", which debuts straight in at number one
this week. Contrary to ARIA's incorrect chart commentary,
this is actually his third solo single to debut at
number one. The former number one debuts being "Lose
Yourself" (December 2002) and "Without Me" (June 2002).
The music video for "Just Lose It" sees Eminem make
some fun of Michael Jackson, with Jackson's famous
nose, which is reportedly about to fall off due to far
too much plastic surgery, actually dropping off, and
being stepped on by people dancing in a club.

5. LOSE MY BREATH - Destiny's Child
The last we heard of the female trio, Destiny's Child,
was over 2 years ago with a string of hit singles off
their double-platinum selling "Survivor" album. Since
then, the girls have been pursuing solo careers.
Kelly Rowland topped the singles chart in October 2002
with her collaboration with Nelly on "Dilemma", while
her follow-up single, "Stole", peaked at number 2.
After a slow start, Beyonce Knowles hit the jackpot
with a string of huge hits, including three top 3
smashes - "'03 Bonnie And Clyde" (featuring Jay-Z),
"Crazy In Love" (also featuring Jay-Z) and "Baby
Boy" (featuring Sean Paul). So after such strong
solo success, you would not expect Destiny's Child
to reform, and even if they did, you would not
expect them to repeat the heights of their success in
the past. Well, we have been proven wrong on both
counts. Destiny's Child are back, and their
brand new album, "Destiny Fulfilled", goes on sale
next week. The first single from the new album is
the track "Lose My Breath" which crashes into the
chart at number 5 this week, giving the group their
7th top 10 hit since 2000's chart-topping "Say My Name".

30. BETTER OFF ALONE - Grinspoon
Aussie 4-piece band, Grinspoon, scored a top 5 chart
debut with their new album, "Thrills, Kills and
Sunday Pills" when it was released a couple of
month ago. The first single from that album was
the track "Hard Act To Follow" which peaked at number
24. Now Grinspoon are back with another single off
the album in the form of the not so heavy sounding
"Better Off Alone" which comes in at number 30 this week.
Grinspoon are on the web at http://www.grinspoon.com.au/.

45. ALWAYS - Blink 182
Californian-based punk-rock band, Blink 182, score another
hit off their top 10 platinum selling self-titled album.
They kicked the album off with the single "Feeling This"
(number 20, November 2003), followed it up with the
ballad "I Miss You" (number 13, April 2004) and
then the third single, "Down" (number 35, July 2004).
Their latest release and fourth single is the track
"Always" which debuts at number 45. Blink 182's official
web site can be found at http://www.blink182.com/.

50. I GOTTA KNOW - Figgkidd
This week's final new entry comes from 21 year-old Sydney
song-writer, MC and rapper, Figgkidd. His debut single,
"I Gotta Know", enters the chart at number 50 and features
on his album "What is Figgkidd", which goes on sale
later this month. Figgkidd is supporting Cypress Hill on
their "Still Smokin'" tour this December, and you can check
out the music video for Figgkidd's "I Gotta Know" single
on his web site at http://www.figgkidd.com/.

9. This week's feature song lyrics

---------------------
JUST LOSE IT - Eminem
---------------------
Ok..
Guess who's back?
Back again
Shady's back
Tell a friend
Whaaaaaaaa

Now everyone report to the dance floor
To the dance floor, to the dance floor
Now everyone report to the dance floor
Alright Stop!.....Pajama time

Come here little kiddies, On my lap
Guess who's back with a brand new rap?
And I don't mean rap as in a new case of child investigation accusation
(HA-HA-HA-HA-HA)
No worries, papa's got a brand new bag of toys
What else could I possibly do to make noise?
I done touched on everything, but little boys
That's not a stab at Michael
That's just a metaphor, I'm just psycho
I go a little bit crazy sometimes
I get a little bit out of control with my rhymes
Good God, dip, do a little slide
Bend down, touch your toes and just glide
Up the center of the dance floor
Like TP for my bunghole
And it's cool if you let one go
Nobody's gonna know, who'd hear it?
Give a little "poot poot", it's OK!
Oops my cd just skipped
And everyone just heard you let one rip

Now I'm gonna make you dance
It's your chance
Yeah boy shake that ass
Oops I mean girl girl girl girl
Girl you know you're my world
Alright now lose it
(HA-HA-HA-HA-HA)
Just lose it
(HA-HA-HA-HA-HA)
Go crazy
(HA-HA-HA-HA-HA)
Oh baby
(HA-HA)
Oh baby, baby
(HA-HA)

It's Friday and it's my day
Just to party all the way to sunday
Maybe til monday, I dunno what day
Everyday's just a holiday
Crusin' on the freeway
Feelin' kinda breezy
Got the top down, lettin' my hair blow
I dunno where I'm goin'
All I know is when I get there
Someone's gonna "touch my body"

Excuse me miss, I don't mean to sound like a jerk
But I'm feelin' just a little stressed out from work
Could you punch me in the stomach and pull my hair?
Spit on me, maybe gouge my eyes out? (Yeah)
Now, what's your name girl?
What's your sign?
"Man, you must be up out your mind"
DRE! (HA-HA)
Beer goggles blind!
I'm just tryna unwind now I'm

Now I'm gonna make you dance
It's your chance
Yeah boy shake that ass
Oops I mean girl girl girl girl
Girl you know you're my world
Alright now lose it
(HA-HA-HA-HA-HA)
Just lose it
(HA-HA-HA-HA-HA)
Go crazy
(HA-HA-HA-HA-HA)
Oh baby
(HA-HA)
Oh baby, baby
(HA-HA)

It's Tuesday and I'm locked up
I'm in jail and I don't know what happend
They say I was running butt naked
Down the street screaming
(HA-HA-HA-HA-HA)
Well I'm sorry, I don't remember
All I know is this much
I'm not guilty
They said, "Save it, boy we gotcha you on tape
yellin' at an old lady 'touch my body!'"

Now this is the part where the rap breaks down
It gets real intense, no one makes a sound
Everything looks like it's 8 Mile now
The beat comes back and everybody lose themselves
Snap back to reality
Look it's B.Rabbit!
Yo you signed me up to battle!?
I'm a grown man!
Chubba chubba chubba chubba chubba chubbie
I don't have any lines to go right here so, chubba teletubbie!
Fella's (WHAT?!) Fella's (WHAT?!)
Grab you left nut, make right one jealous (what?)
Black girls
White girls
Skinny girls
Fat girls
Tall girls
Small girls
I'm callin' all girls
Everyone report to the dance floor
It's your chance for a little romance whore
Butt squeezin' it's the season
Just go (HA-HA-HA-HA)
It's so appeasin'

Now I'm gonna make you dance
It's your chance
Yeah boy shake that ass
Oops I mean girl girl girl girl
Girl you know you're my world
Alright now lose it
(HA-HA-HA-HA-HA)
Just lose it
(HA-HA-HA-HA-HA)
Go crazy
(HA-HA-HA-HA-HA)
Oh baby
(HA-HA)
Oh baby, baby
(HA-HA)

UmMmMmm touch my body
UmMmMmm touch my body
Ooh boy just touch my body
I mean girl just touch my body

--------------------------------
LOSE MY BREATH - Destiny's Child
--------------------------------
CHORUS:
Can you keep up?
Baby boy, make me lose my breath
Bring the noise, make me lose my breath
Hit me Hard, make me lose my (Hah Hah)
Can you keep up?
Baby boy, make me lose my breath
Bring the noise, make me lose my breath
Hit me Hard, make me lose my (Hah Hah)

OOOh
I put it right there, made it easy for you to get to
Now you wanna act like ya don't know what to do
After I done everything that you asked me
Grabbed you, grind you, liked you, tried you
Moved so fast baby now I can't find you

OOOh
I'm startin' to believe that I'm way too much for you
All that talk but it seems like it can't come through
All them lies like you could satisfy me,
Now I see where believing you got me
Gave you the wheel, but you can't drive me

(CHORUS)

OOOh
Two things I don't like when I tryin' to get my groove
Is a partna that meets me only half way and just can't prove
Take me out so deep when you know you can't swim
Need a lifeguard and I need protection
So put it on me deep in the right direction

OOOh
You understand the facts that I'm tryin' to give to you
You movin' so slow like you just don't have a clue
Didn't mama teach you to give affection?
You're the difference of a man and an adolescent
It ain you boo, so get tha steppin'

(CHORUS x2)

If you can't make me say OOO
Like the beat of this drum
Why you ask for some and you really want none
If you can't make me say OOO
Like the beat of this groove

You don't have no business in this here's your papers
Baby you are dismissed, dismissed, dismissed, dismissed
dismissed, dismissed, dismissed

(CHORUS x2)

BETTER OFF ALONE - Grinspoon
----------------------------
I never gave a reason why I didn't call
Now I've grown so tired of lying to myself
I cannot go unsaid I regret what they know
Don't think it's all been a waste of tim

You better off alone? Stop lying to yourself
I regret what was said I deny what they know
Are you better off alone?

Those we admired
They stood their ground and cried
I didn't start the fire
I just trieed to see your eyes
It cannot go unsaid I only wanted
To know I think it's all going to work out fine

We're better off alone then lying to ourselves who cares
What they've said who cares
What they know we're better off alone

I know that my love I'll send
Could we still be friends but this is the end
I think it's all going to work out fine
We're better off alone

ALWAYS - Blink 182
------------------
I've been here before a few times
And I'm quite aware we're dying
And your hands they shake with goodbyes
And I'll take you back if you'd have me
So here I am I'm trying
So here I am are you ready

Come on let me hold you touch you feel you
Always
Kiss you taste you all night
Always

And I'll miss your laugh your smile
I'll admit I'm wrong if you'd tell me
I'm so sick of fights I hate them
Lets start this again for real

So here I am I'm trying
So here I am are you ready
So here I am I'm trying
So here I am are you ready

Come on let me hold you touch you feel you
Always
Kiss you taste you all night
Always
Come on let me hold you touch you feel you
Always
Kiss you taste you all night
Always

I've been here before a few times
And I'm quite aware we're dying

Come on let me hold you touch you feel you
Always
Kiss you taste you all night
Always
Come on let me hold you touch you feel you
Always
Kiss you taste you all night
Always
Always
Always

They've corrected that now, but Always is Blink 182's fourth release off the
self-titled album, not the third as ARIA suggested. Add to that the Natasha
Bedingfield ownership and Masonia formerly disowned, and it seems like ARIA and
the record companies are into inaccuracy these days :p
