My mother lives in the UK. Have been thinking of aus.music recently as I
think I have been involved in a few x-posts ... that and all the Aus Idol
stuff in aus.tv ;) Anyway, I thought some of you might appreciate this
review:
Went to the Finn gig at the Hammersmith Apollo on Sunday night and it was
ACE! Lots of Kiwi blokes in the audience, (go figure!)
They played and played and played so it was a good night.
They did a mix of Split Enz & Crowded House, as expected, but also did some
of their own stuff, (unknown stuff to me). Tim Finn rocked, his energy was
amazing. Neil was the more quiet, tight, excellent player/singer/repartee
guy and from the get-go, Tim was trying to get a vibe going. It was the
last night of their tour so maybe that had something to do with it as well.
One of their encore songs was Split Enz 'I See Red' and it was just fab!
Tim gave it heaps. I could see Minnie Driver in the wings (she watched most
of the show) and she was going off as well.
Minnie Driver was the support act and better than I expected, (I'd heard her
sing on a late night TV chat show previously). She used the Finn band
(mostly) and finished with a real up-tempo rocky number which got the crowd
going, but the rest of her set was a bit samey and low-key.
