My gawd, this song is so farking HOT!!

If you haven't heard it, it's a mashup of "Karma" by Alicia Keys with the
backing music from "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder (also nicknamed
"Karmastition"). Download the MP3 now and you too will lurve it to pieces!
;)

The song has only been available as a white label release for a few weeks
in the UK but we were lucky enough to see it given a proper release to
radio last week. In Melbourne, you've got Joy FM, Fox and Nova playing it
on light to medium rotation and I suspect it'd be receiving similar
attention in other cities.

I'm expecting it to debut at #1 if it's released as a single before
burnout.

That is all.

Oh yes, heavy rotation will kill any song.

Thankfully, though, rotation has been light in the past week. I can only
speculate that the record company has given radio stations a rough
indication its release date.

Yeah I don't mind it... NOVA have been playing it here for about the last 3 weeks.

I don't know if B's onto it...

Talking about new music...

What's everyone's thoughts on the New Aussie Idol Song "Listen to your
heart"?

Gotta say when i first heard it - B Grade, very B Grade.

The song sounded like a nightmare for all MDs, cause they know it's
crap, but due to sales/chart pressure, they are going to have to give
it a run - then in about two months wipe it from the playlist.

What's more annoying is Dion Warren, wrote it.

Considering it's "Australian" Idol, couldn't they find an Aussie song
writer to knock out a true blue song?

I find it disapointing for Australia's kids to look up to an Idol with
a very ordinary song and a forthcoming el-cheapo album.

What's everyone's Thoughts?

then got our monies worth and be entertained!)

The song has already been discussed at great lengths in aus.tv,
concensus by ALL who commented on it was that it was crap.

American dross.

What about not play it at all? Surely it can't be that hard especially
considering that not all top 40 hits get picked up by the CHR stations. For
example, I don't recall hearing many of them play Korn or the heavier stuff
from Metallica. American Idol winner Fantasia didn't get much play either
and that went top 5.

Disregarding her ear-bursting screaming, I thought she did slightly better
than Anthony. It's the vile song I tells ya.

All that is good about this song is the tune..

I think it's the combination of Alicia's vocals and the tune that work on
me. I say this because I never really could get into Superstition by Stevie
Wonder.

Similarly, the original version of "Karma" by Alicia Keys is a boring
track. When its vocals are taken out, sped up slightly and inserted into
the backing music of Superstition, it seems to do the trick.

Anyway, we'll have to wait for its commercial release to see what the
punters out there think. ;)

I can't stand it. I can't really get past it being a disgrace to such a
classic song as Superstition.

Gawd... another example of people NOT inventing new music nowdays.

Its another no-brainer that we've seen too many of. Get a popular
song from the past, take the "catchy riff" and repeat it over and
over and over and over and over and over, and throw in a hot
chick to look good on the video clip.
People buy it.

No. This is a remix for the single.

The original album/video edit is out there but radio in Australia has
chosen to play the remix instead. This is typical behaviour for a lot of
harder-edged R&B where dancier remixes are available.

Peter Taylor

And it's typical behaviour of commercial stations to favour a remix instead
of the original.

Take Gabrielle's "Out Of Reach", for example. The song featured in Bridget
Jones Diary in quite a significant way, being used in a pivotal moment of
the film, the clip featured scenes fromt he movie, and the song was used in
TVC's for BJD. A real high profile part of the movie, and one that ensured
the song's success. No surprise then, that radio picked the song up and ran
like hell with it. Well, only problem was, that they ran like hell with the
dancier remix, which did NOT feature in the film! Where's the sense?
Where's the connection? Sure, same song, but NO connection to the film. I
added the film version, as my thinking was that it was THAT version that
people were exposed to in the film. It was THAT version that will 'connect'
most with listeners who saw the film.

When are these stupid young MD's going to realise that not ALL of their
listeners are into dance remixes (and I'm not being ageist here!). Not ALL
their listeners want to hear 160 BPM ALL BLOODY DAY! And what about the
artists, the very people that they're supposed to be promoting? Some
artists have expressed anger, disgust, frustration at radio mixing things up
and speeding things up. Maybe when other media technologies become more
widespread they'll be able to force radio to come to it's senses and stop
fucking with their work!
