MacIDOL.com Competition 2 Rules

All songs must be constructed with GarageBand. No rewired applications
like Reason or Live can be used.

As part of the entry process, you will be asked to submit a track
sheet. Where you will be asked to list all third party loops and
plug-ins used. It is also a space where you can share how you got that
fantastic kick drum sound or delayed guitar etc.. The idea being that
these notes will help share the wealth of knowledge and also help
determine if the recording was completed using GarageBand. If you
really have produced a fantastic track then it's up to you to prove
that you made it with GarageBand. All entrants will vote - so you are
being judged by your peers. In our first competition the winner -
Jesus Martini produced a recording with GarageBand that many pro
recording studios would have been proud of. It also caused a little
controversy because it was that good. So to make sure that your song
is not neglected by your fellow entrants, take the time to write out
as much information about how you recorded your music as possible -
it's in your interests - but also it helps share the wealth of
knowledge - which is a win-win situation.

Example Track sheet:

----------
BPM: 128
Track1 - Bass - recorded live - Fender Precision DI'd into an MBox.
Split the tracks up to tighten the performance. Effects used - gate
and compression and a little eq.

Track2 - Drums - All loops - Drums on Demand Vol1 - Piccolo Loops

Track3 - Guitar - recorded live - Fender Squier Stratocaster - DI'd
using a Sans Amp (normal setting, vintage tubes, close miking) - again
chopped about to tighten it up. Effects used - Guitar Rig - holy grail
59 setting. This was then exported as an AIF file then imported into
GarageBand to save cpu power. Panned left by about 45 degrees.

Track4 - Vocals - recorded live - Blue Baby Bottle microphone, pop
shield. This track was comped together from 5 tracks - compression,
flanger, reverb and a little eq were applied to the comped track.

Track5 - Piano - Software Instrument - Grand Piano - no effects used.

----------

If you have comped tracks together or bounced tracks to save
horsepower then please keep all the original tracks in case of
dispute.

All songs must be original - if you didn't write it then you can't
enter it and No Cover Versions!

Entries to the previous MacIDOL GarageBand competition cannot be
submitted to the 2nd competition. You can submit an 'old' track though
- but remember that it is your peers voting - so there may be some
advantage in submitting a brand new song. MacIDOL want to ensure that
this competition is a definitive collection of GarageBand music. We
expect the creme de la creme of GarageBand musicians to enter - and
the resulting album will be testament to that - so please choose your
best song.

One song per artist - in order to keep it simple you have to pick what
you think is your best work.

You will be asked for your full name and address, which will be used
to send you a prize if you win. So make sure that this is correct! It
will also be used in the consent form for the Competition Album. If
you have made the track with others - you will need to supply their
names and addresses too.

All entrants must agree to a Royalty Free, non-exclusive, unlimited,
universal reproduction right to MacIDOL. - Which means - You will have
to agree to your track being included in the competition album - which
will be sold at cost. The album will be produced in order to promote
your music and also I am sure will make a wonderful memento of the
whole event. You have my assurance that you are free to do what ever
you like with your song in the future - and MacIDOL will not make one
penny (or cent) from your music.

Only entrants can vote.

Entrants must vote or be disqualified.

Each entrant will have to pick their ten favourite tracks from those
entered. You can not vote for your own track.

Deadline for entries - 7th December 2004 Midnight GMT
Entries can be submitted from the 1st of December.

Deadline for votes - 21st December 2004 Midnight GMT - if you haven't
voted by then you will be disqualified.

The winners and full results will be published as soon as the votes
have been collated and band files have been received and analysed.

In the event of a tie - MacIDOL will decide.

MacIDOL reserve the right to ask for your full GarageBand song file in
order to claim your prize. If you can not supply this file - you will
be disqualified and the prize will go to the next placed entrant - as
long as they can furnish MacIDOL with a legal GarageBand file.
