sorry folks, I occasionally spam these newsgroups with news about shows I've
worked on, well somebody has to promote that television station. But this is
actually for a good cause. The Russian community in Melbourne and the Variety
Club put together a concert to help the school in Beslan that had the
horrendous massacre there. I, and all the other crew and performers, donated
our time last Sunday to make a TV show to raise money for them.

Shot at the Myer Music Bowl it's on at 8:30 Saturday 27 Nov. on SBS.

Watch it just for Vanessa Aomorsi, who made a huge leap in my estimation with
her cover version of Janis Joplins' 'Piece Of My Heart'.
I've since heard from another bunch of people about how well she sings
blues, and that her pop stuff is almost just a sideline to her. I've become a
fan.

Other artists who gave their time include BABBA, Active Kidz, Mighty Oz
Rock, Deborah Conway, Kate Ceberano, Ross Wilson, August Falls, Marty Fields,
Scared Weird Little Guys, Peter Brocklehurst, Boyz, Daniel Merriweather, Kate
Alexa, Eran James, Dili Allstars and Brock Downey. I wasn't involved in the
post production, so I don't know who made the cut, it was a three hour live
gig cut to a one hour TV show.

And if you've got a spare dollar or two, you could give yourself a warm
feeling inside, and I don't mean by standing too close to your microwave oven.

Interesting. Particularly as the Russian government had to step in and keep
the Scientologists from taking advantage of the Beslan survivors.

jeebus, John, Kate came, and gave her time, I know she's a scie*tol*gist, I
worked on her jazz show on the ABC many years ago.. It's her choice, and I
don't care what gods she worships, even if they are from some science fiction
books. Kate did the gig, we were happy.

What's she been doing recently? She's incredibly talented, but has
disappeared off the radar. Mark Holden was supposed to be managing her...
dropped the ball I suspect.

I've just done some research, and she is not digging fence post holes for a
living, that was a typical media screw up resulting from her commenting that
she helps out a friend with her fencing business sometimes.

Looks like she's quite busy with performing, good on her.

It's just ironic that that's the thing she picked to give her time to, is
all.

LOL Is that a Joplin song? I know it mostly as a Faith Hill song, but I
never knew it was hers, you do learn something new every day!

Why'd they have to put this on in place of my favourite show, Iron Chef...
of all the SBS crap they could have replaced instead...

** I switched on to SBS last night to find the performance of "Piece of My
Heart" about half way through the song with no idea who I was watching
except is was a some local band. For a second or two, I thought the girl
singer was miming to Janis Joplin's voice - then I suddenly realised she
was * NOT * !!!

The rest of the song for me was all "hair stands up on the back of your
neck" stuff - especially since I am a big Joplin fan from waaaaay back.
The compare did not back announce the names so only now I find out who it
was.

Can anyone tell me the name of the backing band - no slouches either at
performing very difficult song close to exactly as done on a famous late
1960s recording.

** AGA = alt.guitar.amps, easily\y one of the greatest wasteland on
usenet.

Being disliked on that NG full of rabid, gun toting, war mongering Septic
Tank psychopaths is a badge of honour.

which is why I don't read the off topic posts, albeit they constitute 80% of
the postings in that group.

** The supposedly "on topic " one are just as bad - they are written by
just the same vile and violent people. Since following a couple of Yank
NGs for a while, I now fully understand why so many folk despise
Americans.
