there is thousand of movie on the net. Some encoded with various settings, VBR/CBR mp3, AC3, codec xvid1.0x and Divx. How can you tell which movie have to re-encode or fixed with MPEG 4 Modifier ? Some fixed with MPEG4 modifier to remove packed stream/user info. It still doesnt work. The only sure way is TRY.. not work then re-encode.!!
Anyone suggest another way or program to check. How about Zensonic produce a program to check compability. ?

I don't think the onus is on a supplier to supply an application to identify which one of your illegal downloads will work on your player without you having to do anything :D , it would be like them endorsing your downloads. You can however identify your files first with Gspot, there are some file types that are known that will need to be reworked first, such as the newest Xvid codec. Even for those there are apps to rectify the file before burning to disc, experience will tell you which files will work fine and which ones you will have trouble with. If in doubt get yourself some RW discs until you work things out.

that was fast reply.. jok11n.. thanks for comment
Gspot, avicodec and others...... none will tell you exactly codec version and encoding bit rate/packed stream/B, Qpel etc.
what I mean is that zensonic will state exactly what it is support!! eg. with the firmware version. "we tested with xvid 1.0 or divx 5.2.1 etc. Future codecs is dependent on firmware update"
or provide details of new limitation....with present firmware and chipset.
don't know about you, but I have found that the latest xvid (1.0.2) plays fine on the z330 as long as bitstream is unpacked, without exception. The latest version of Mpegmodifier also tells you if the video file was encoded with Qpel and GMC options, so it pretty much covers all bases; pixel aspect ratio, packed bitsream, Qpel, GMC, interlacing, and if you know the codes, the "User Data" field also tells you which version of the codec was used (eg. xvid 1.0.2 comes out as "XviD0036").
You just have to know by experience what works on your player. As Jokiin implied, there's no substitute for trying on an RW disc first! But after you've done a few, you get to know what works and what doesn't.

Good point, Bluestar if you take this suggestion on board you might like to build a database of known good codecs :dD

zensonic 330 limitation:
1. packed stream (jerky picture)
2. GMC (jerky picture)
3. encoding > 3000kbps (jerky picture)
4. bit map subtitles idx/sub not working with firmware 1.1c
(it works with previous firmware) ? a step backward
check it with mpeg4 modifier 1.20/video information

hi i dont own a 330, i own a 300 but i was curious about this packed stream you are talking about, how does a stream get packed ? and if it is packed - how do you unpack it?

Hey Jason..
The tool the guys mentioned above is the way to do it...mpeg4 modifier. http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=MPEG4_Modifier.
it's incredibly handy little tool that can alter a video's settings without re-encoding. load up video, it'll tell you whether its packed or not.. select unpack and resave.
Also - when you set 'unpack' on, it'll ask you to change the userdata... on the front page, under userdata you'll see divx with a bunch of letters after it. make sure you change the last one from P to N and you should be right.
