Howdy,

Connected my Foxtel Digital STB to my Plasma but my S-Video connection won't work.

Instead I get a mostly B&W picture with a splash of blue thrown in.

It's thru the Scart TV connection and it connects into my NEC Plasma.

I then go into System Settings/Picture/Video Input and enter S-Video but it won't work.

The STB is a UEC 10000 and I am instead getting my piccies thru a Composite connection via the scart which I'm not overly happy with.

Should I call a Foxtel Technician?

Any thoughts.

Thanks

Scart Cables are directional and I bet your cable is the wrong direction.
Try spending $15 on a Scart-Svideo adaptor - it has a switch so you can set
the direction - with a normal S-Video cable. That will probably work.

It's a unlilateral (bi) cable.

I'm told by Foxtel, the EUC Box isn't compatible with this cable and needs a Hills s-Video cable to work.

Anyone heard of this??

Spend the $15 and use a standard cable as I originally suggested. You will
find it probably works. If not, return the adaptor cable. Simple.

The S-Video on my UEC 1000 is ratshit too. Bought and tried the
bi-directional switch and a couple of different cables...looks like only a
couple of the colours come through (very heavy red/yellow bias). Luckily the
TV has component inputs and the YUV works very well indeed.

Search on http://www.dtvforum.info forums, heaps of info about this. It
seems to be a bug related to that particular box model (if I remember
correctly).
Yes, the cables are directional, but you wouldn't see anything if you got
the wrong direction.
