Hello all.
I am thinking of getting this new DVD player called Rank Arena DV2400 DVD player from Strathfield Car Radios for $399.

Just wanting to know if anybody has had any experiences with this player (good or bad).

Thx

i have one of these rankarena dvd players
so far has played all my dvds including rce discs,
no noticeable sync problems, can play mp3s up to 320kbit and vbr files as well.
i thought something was wrong with the output as i was gettin some strange interference..but when i got a monster svideo cable the image was fixed up and is now crystal clear...
any more questions email me

hi there. many thanks for the info. i managed to get one of these players a couple of days ago, and so far my only complaint is the green start-up screen. but everything else seems to work really good. the sound quality i particularly like which seems to be more dynamic compared to the omni brand. overall, i love this machine's audio/video capabilities not the mention its sleek design.

yeah
im noticed the sound was quite dim like it was with my xms..but when i switched dolby digital to rf modulation the sound came at the same volume as the tv would..mind you when you hook an amp up to the player you should turn off rf modulation

did you also notice you can play mpg videos that have been burnt not as vcds but just as .mpg's on a normal cd
quite handy

I have had my Rankarena dvd2400 for 2 years and it was working very well but now it slows down and then freezes when playing most dvds?
It plays cd audio and some karoke discs and some burnt cds?
It has been useless trying to contact the makers as their email is now non existant?
Strathfield CR says there is a "software" upgrade available, maybe they mean a " firmware " upgrade which in any case is $130.00
but they arrange everything apparently.
I am thinking of now buying a Harmony DVD from Dick Smiths $198.00 fully compat, plays everything etc etc with a 3 YEAR warranty which should cover things like I have just encountered..
Any clues as to the fix for the RA DVD2400?
thanks

$130 for a firmware....its a bit much considering you can now buy players for $128 (yup i bought a 2nd unit from GoodGuys). when my rankarena2400 dies, i'll just chuck it....the makers have probably gone under by now. the pioneer for $299 looks really good. plays svcd too.

I have just purchased a Pioneer DVR-106D Burner. I have read many guides and FAQ's and subsequently have used DVD Decrypter, then DVD2One and then Nero to burn some disks.

I have used dvd-r in each case. One was a 4x shintaro and the other a 2x Vertex. Both play well on the PC and on a friends stand alone home Pioneer DVD player so I am sure they have been burned correctly.

They won't play on my 2 year old Rank Arena DVD 2400. Eventually it opens up the MP3 folder and doesn't recognise the disk as being DVD.

Is this a known problem with the Rank Arena. Will dvd+r work in it or will I have to buy another brand of DVD player to watch my backups at home??

I have searched the forums and google for an answer but can't find one.

Does anyone out there know for sure that this brand won't play dvd - r or + r ? Thanks in advance...

Playe well at first, it has many good features but mine is now stuffed. It wont play any dvds, but has played burnt vcd, audio cd but don't know about dvd rs. It also played mp3s.
I went and got a Hyundai from Video Easy for $147.00 with full 3 year warranty. The store owner/manager told me when asked, that if i have to bring it back the ploicy is replacement and not send away for repair.. So far this has played all my dvds, svcds, mp3s but have not tried cd photo yet. It only lacks the L/R audio outs. I could not buy the Harmony from the Central Coast, Dick Smith Power House only. I did not want to have to travel to and from Sydney if any problems may occur later..

Bought a Rank Arena DVD 2400 player for my son for Xmas. Purchased 2 weeks prior to Xmas (who shops on Xmas Day) therefore reducing warranty by 2 weeks. Next Xmas Day, DVD freezes on all layer changes and unfreeze possible only by turning unit off and back on. But no way can next layers be played. Of all our DVDs, only 3 are on a single layer.

Contact Strathfield Car Radio who told me warranty expired. I reply that 1 day out, but they say warranty commences from time of sale. Strathfield Car Radio has no after sales credibility as far as I am concerned.

However this player vital. Was going to buy Omni as some of them were macrovision disabled.
Got talked into company (Rank Arena) with known representation in Aust. (no one told me at that stage that repairs had to go back to Syndey (from QLD) at unit owners cost.

However by the time I went to replace this unit as Rank Arena (upon my phoning them in Sydney) also say that warranty expire (again proving after sales decency do not exist from manufacturer either), Omni no longer an option nor any other macrovision disabled machine available due to legistlation changes.

Strathfield have 1 Rank Arena unit left which I can purchase and I do so and present it to my son on his birthday (in lieu of now worthless and not vialble to fix DVD Rank Arena).
Shock and Horror - Draw will not open, LED lights very faded and Error message stuck in display. Lead missing. This is an identical machine to what I purchased 18 months prior.

Now have to send back DVD to Rank Arena in Sydney - but while they are fixing the layer change problem, will they also enable macrovision which will negate the reason for my choice of purchjase of their machine and also negate my decision to have this unit repaired.
What does the legislation say about repairs being carried out on units that were legal when purchased, but legislations now outlaws such units.
I believe repairers are obliged to repair but not invalidate my original purchasing decision/s.

your refreshing a very old thread here, but to put your mind at ease the macrovision can be enabled via remote, details of how to do it here http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdhacks.php?select=Rankarena+DVD2400
