Well, I bowed to the wifes desires and took delivery of a VZ SV6
today.
I've come to the conclusion that the motoring public in Oz is
delusional, I know my wife is.
Thank Gd I still have my quiet, mechanically refined Magna.

I welcome you to crackerbox palace,We've been expecting you.

Delusional? Yes. Bribe taking - definitely.

I'm comforted by the fact that I still have my 2 Magnas.
While not having new body styling, though still a pretty car, and not
having a brand new engine, they both surpass this new thing.

I don't know about bribe taking, but I can assure you that they
certainly wear earplugs when testing cars.
The howling banshee that passes for a transmission in the SV6 is a
disgrace and the road noise transmitted by the 235/45/17 Potenzas had
me thinking that we had a flat tyre already.
On the contrary, Holden pre delivery had put a range of tyre pressures
in the car, I can only guess so that we could see how each corner
responded.
Right front 46psi
LH 37 psi
RR 32 psi
LR 39 psi.
I thought it felt a little strange when I picked it up.
Today it goes in for a wheel alignment after which, I'll do my own pre
delivery inspection......It is shiny though, and the tyres are very
black.

Is it the 5 spd auto?
I had similar thoughts about the auto transmission in a new Statesman I
drove, it was very noisy from a standing start so I didn't think it
could possibly be normal.
Once up to speed the noise went away.

According to the Holden website the SV6 comes with,
5-speed automatic with Active Select (no cost option).

God I love marketing jerkoffs.
This active select - a lever?
A switch or two?
And the opposite - passive select?
No such thing.
One simply cannot passively select anything, since the very act of
selection is active.
Ergo, active select is a nonsense.
No wonder it's a no-cost option.
Doesn't stop their committing to print.
So I guess there's hope for me yet:-)

Yep 5 speed auto.
It whines while accelerating , goes relatively quiet at steady speed
and whines again whenever the power is applied to climb a hill.
It really is a disgrace by todays standards.

Yep, active select.
You have to actively flick the paddle 2 seconds before you require the
lower gear then wait till it decides to change down.

Sounds like a bit of a marketing ploy then. That's unusual for Holden.

The radio is speed sensitive so it gets louder as the car gets noisier
at speed.

It's not a bad idea for punting the car thru twisty bits, you can hang
onto the wheel and change gears without using the gearshift.
Ya just make the change down early and hold thru the corners.
Hopefully as the engine runs in it'll want to rev a bit easier.

Yep, there's a big digit that shows up on the trip computer screen
right in the middle of the cluster. No problem with that, but the
digits on the speedo and tacho are tiny, and quite hard to see
particularly at night in red/green.
I switch to the other gimmick, digital speedo at night :-)
