View Full Version : Casey Donovan - only double platinum?

Australian Idol 2 winner Casey Donovan debuts on the singles chart at #1
this week. But it's only managed to achieve a double platinum accreditation
(~140,000 units). Good gawd, it's a failure! <g>

Seriously though, take these figures with a grain of salt. However, it's
still interesting to look at because first week sales accreditations are
usually a reflection of retailer enthusiasm as well. Retailers may be wary
of her appeal. The fact that she wasn't able to match Guy Sebastian's debut
might have BMG worried, especially when Australian Idol 2 rated better than
the first season.

On December 19th, "The Prayer" by Anthony Callea is released. I would not
be surprised if it matches or eclipses Casey's first week sales award
figure. I believe Casey's debut has been crippled by a dire song. Callea on
the other hand may struggle to get airplay.

It will be interesting to see which radio stations will be prepared to sell
out their format in order to put this song on the air. Nova is a pretty
sure bet but i'm not so sure about the others.
Unless they release it with a *shudder* dance remix version at the same
time.

I guess her record label didn't buy enough copies back...

Thanks for the link. You may have noticed I posted it over in aus.tv.

Anthony's rendition of The Prayer worked because we saw the energy and
emotion in his performance. I don't think that'll translate well over to a
studio recording. Having said that, I am looking forward to its commercial
release and I'm sure there are a lot of enthusiastic "fans" of the song out
there.
