Hey guys, I'm thinking a lot on buying a PS2. One of my friends asked me last night if I could sell my gamecube. Then his best friend says he wants one too. Anyway I'm now selling my gamecube to his best friend for $350 (comes with 51 mem. card, 6 games (MK: DD, N4S:U1 (non-plat), SSBM (non-plat), 007 Nightfire, Enter The Matrix & THPS 3), 3 controllers (1x purple / 1x black (came with gamecube) / 1x orange). Everything is in Mint condition, the only problem is, is that there is a tiny marking on the N$S:u1 CD, which can be removed with a scrath/removal kit:P. I've had the Gamecube for almost One year.

And so I'm now on the hunt to find a PS2, but thats the thing, I'd rather buy an old big PS2 simply hoping they will be cheaper. Does anyone know of any stores in Melbourne that might have left over stock?
My budget for buying the PS2 is $350.
Looking for the following
- PS2 (hopefully big one) console (with the one controller)
- 1x controller
- mem. card
- 2x games

Is there any packages out there that you know of? Like a PS2 with mem card and 1 game free thing.
Thanks heaps guys.

Aaron

dont think there would be any packages out there, but stores like Toys R Us always seem to have older stock of systems, so might like to check them out to see if they have the big one in stock

Not sure if this is true but I heard that Sony recalled all of the old stock and replaced it with the new slim-line ones.

try swap meet this friday/satruday, there should be a nice xmas clean out.. might find what your looking for there.... you could always try ebay for a nice combo ps2 (v7 mostly)

and there still alot of ps2 (v9/10) around in store; only standened alone tho, don't think sony as recall all the old model as of yet, maybe next yr tho.

Ok I've range a few places up, I'm now buying a brand new PS2, and yeh it's going to be a slimline PS2 simply because it's cheaper. Dicksmith Powerhouse have only 1 Silver ps2 left for $199 but since it's a display one (which they dont need because of the new one) I see no reason to why I can't buy it :(.

And yeh I'm buying a ps1 dual shock controllerm which sets me back $20 because it's second hand (and I dont care really, only care of the stick isn't wobelly). And I'm going to by just 2nd hand games for now, does anyone know where I can get a cheap 8mb ps2 mem card? Since I dont want to pay $50 for it :(

I wouldn't be buying a PS1 controller to use on a ps2, I'd use one if I had one, but I wouldn't be paying for it. It's missing the anologue functions on all of the buttons.

Put the $20 towards a $50-$60 PS2 madcatz pack, which includes a vertical stand, memory card, and controller.

Gamerush stores have reconditioned big fat PS2s with 2 controllers (1 official) and a carry bag for $169. 30 day guarantee.

Top buy I reckon.

I called them but they are unsure of how old the PS2's are; hence the laser could be busted very soon or something.. what do you mean by "reconditioned" does that mean fixed up? Or serviced by Sony?

I'd rather not, since I would prefer having original stuff, like the Sony controller over a 3rd party one, if you get me. The 3rd party ones look different, which if I get used to using one that looks and feels different hence playing on a normal one will take awhile to get used to, and also if I was ever to sell / trade in the PS2 people don't want to buy a 3rd party controller, they prefer the original, sorry. But thanks still.

Still, Linton's point is a good one - if you have a PS1 controller for the second one you will simply be unable to play multiplayer on a lot of the newer games which require two fully analog controllers.

If multiplayer is important to you, don't waste your money on a PS1 controller. Save for a secondary PS2 controller and get an official one.

I thought a PS1 controller had two control sticks.. Oh well maybe Games-rush or EB will have second hand PS2 controllers; which the sticks aren't wobelly (like leaning to the left).

The issue isn't analog on the sticks, it's analog on the buttons. PS2 controllers have buttons that respond to different levels of pressure, something that no PS1 controller ever had.

Oh. Thanks for the tip. You saved me $20 :)
